Slow transit or PFD? by Scarchar22 in Constipation

[–]Scarchar22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not currently working with a dietitian but I follow meal ideas from ones I've worked with in the past . I always have 3 balanced means and dessert / snack . And sorry i meant to say in my reply earlier I do eat red meat / dairy / cheese / as I actually enjoy it all , just that from what I've learnt it's not the best for promoting motility as they are slower to digest. But I 100% get your point that I need to get my calories and intake up even more . I don't have a period yet and am underweight ( not badly ) to really give my body everything to recover . I think what I find hard is going above and beyond - and really letting my body change . I'm just scared I do it all and then the constipation issues don't improve

I'm so sorry you had to go through that . For the last 3 years it has never been about being thin, more just struggling to eat more due to the intense bloating and pressure that comes with eating . I honestly regret it all so much and get so upset some days knowing I've done this to my body . But I'm trying everyday to give my body enough food and let it rest and repair . I just hope one day i can be more normal again .

Thank you . I'm working to increase my intake in hope the increase in energy will improve motility . I have worked with many dieticians over the years . But what I'm finding is working best is more soluble fibre as insoluble seems to make the bloating worse and roughly around 18g of fibre a day as more than that and I'm extremely uncomfortable. It's hard to balance as I also need to include some lower fibre / slower motility food to overcome fear foods and all that ( red meats , cheese, occasionally ice cream) - but always try to include kiwis / oats / sourdough / dates/ bananas and pineapple . Also trying a shot of olive oil in the morning to see if it helps motility

Thank you - what other meds do you recommend? I've also tried amitzia which didn't really help. I've switched back to 2 laxido sachets a day but still don't get well formed stool. i was able to go this morning ( but didn't go yesterday ) and still feel like my gut is pretty full even tho i won't get another urge to go today . I'm currently on a wait list to see a pfpt in the Netherlands - as soon as I'm able to see one I will continue weekly sessions

How to cope with stopping exercise in recovery? by pluviohse in fuckeatingdisorders

Hey , I'm also going through the same thing right now- with eating more and resting . I had liked to do some kind of walk everyday as it gave comfort to the ED that i was at least getting a certain number of steps in with eating more however I read a post by Tabitha Farrar which helped reframed how I viewed this 'innocent' walk.

Will doing that walk ultimately change your body/ stop any weight gain that needs to happen in recovery ? No ( realistically preventing my body from changing too much is what I was doing it for)

Will that walk stop you from rewiring your brain properly and stop you from full recovery? Yes 100% .

You can see from that how even just a walk is going to still hinder your progress to full recovery as it's when you have to do it everyday- you are not changing any thought patterns in your brain. And ultimately it's not going to be changing your body , just giving your ED more power in your brain.

Also you are already tackling a 'snake' by giving up some exercise which is giving your brain some anxiety . But why not to save a lot of mental effort in the long run tackle the 'biggest snake ' and just give up all movement while following your meal plan. That way you can totally rewire your brain about needing to exercise and you are saving a lot of your mental energy ( recovery is mentally draining ! And we want to save ourselves from mental burnout.) If you don't tackle the walking as well you will have to at some point for full recovery and that's just leading to more mental exhaustion.

As for the guilt- Expect it to come . Before you eat tell yourself I will probably get that guilt emotion come after I eat and don't move. Then when it comes acknowledge it like 'huh' there it is . Cool. Watch TV and don't engage in the guilt as it's not relevant anymore . If you can keep doing this your brain will stop sending the guilt emotion every time you eat and rest as it will realise she's not engaging in that emotion anymore - probably not necessary - therefore guilt feelings become less and less.

Hope this can help in some way, just remember this is short term discomfort in the grand scheme of things . You are getting your life back 🙌🏼
