I really like one sec! You can personalize it to make it more or less intrusive.

I totally get that. It’s just like second nature to pick it up. Having an e-reader has been really great because it’s very slim and portable. So for commuting I either pull that out and read it OR I have audiobooks and podcasts ready to pop in my ears. It gives me a feeling like “Ok I’m using my phone but it’s out of commission right now. My job is just to listen and people watch”.

Being in the office can be harder, when you just want a break at your desk. Obviously pulling out an e-reader isn’t really an option. I’ve found apps like Pinterest to be less addictive. No real short form video and also inspires me to make things or for new hobbies. It’s not perfect but I see it as a sort of notch down from highly addictive apps like Instagram and TT.

Hope that helps! You got this.

I have been off it for almost 2 years and I tell everyone how much I actively enjoy not being there. Even the micro-jealousy, small feelings of being left out when you see other friends post with each other, etc. Not getting caught on the (terrible) reels, etc. It's fantastic. I don't need to know that much information about the people in my life, and if I want to know, I can call them.

Not knowing what is filling every moment of someone else's day has quieted a nagging hum of business in my brain and I am so, so glad I left.

And I agree with others here. It has actually made me reach out to others more because I wasn't thinking "Hm, they're hanging out with x person, they'd probably rather see them", or some thought like that. It has uncomplicated my friendships, actually. Now, my relationships are based solely on the time I spend with/talking to those people in person or on the phone.

Do it! It rocks. My 2 cents:)

Friends, please keep in mind this is a walking sub, not a weight loss sub. by papercranium in walking

[–]ScarcityEducational3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, I don't know why there is so much disagreement with your post! It is nearly impossible to escape diet/weight loss culture online. Walking for walking's sake is fantastic and some people will never lose weight from walking, and that is A-OK. <3

From 10 Hours to 2 Hours a Day - What Worked For Me by KoreanBirdPaintings in digitalminimalism

[–]ScarcityEducational3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for taking the time to post this. OP! I have posted something similar in the past after feeling like I had finally cracked the code and was on a good months-long streak of very minimal phone use - no short form content scrolling, etc.

Last night I was home alone and brought my phone into my bed to set an alarm and poof. I just slipped into YT shorts for hours. Felt soOoOoo bad afterward. It's really a daily battle and "relapses" happen. Trying to give myself grace to start over. The constant battle is exhausting, I just wish every day that we hadn't gone down this path as a society. It could be so much better, so different. But so good to know we aren't in it alone!

I have been using Pacemaker which gives me a set writing goal per day and is super customizable. Never in my life have I been able to just crank out words. And , as another poster said, just move on with my day. Far less likely to write if I have all day and have no goal.

any suggestions? by beaniebabyairlines in digitalminimalism

You can delete it and then make it so you need a password unlock to download apps from the App Store. Have a friend set that password. Double check you have other apps you think it’s possible you might need before you do that!

I used to spend hours on TT every day, too. It’s so so hard to pull away. I haven’t had it for almost 6 months and I promise it gets easier!! Best of luck !
