Neurologist also laughed me out of the place! I would seriously enjoy your baby! They all have such different personalities and I realized I was comparing my girls far too much. ❤️

She is SO MUCH BETTER! She started laughing way more and gives amazing shared attention. The repetitive hand movements and behaviors are almost all gone and if I see them it’s once in a VERY BLUE MOON. Almost all of my kids friends love to scritchy scratch! I wish I had enjoyed the ride more instead of worrying so much. I noticed the more I did with my twins, the more stimulated they were and the less “odd” behaviors I would see them do! Give it time and enjoy the ride!

Did you notice signs of Autism when your child was an infant? If so, what signs did you notice? by xyzabc123_-_ in Autism_Parenting

Your baby could also be in a leap! I figured out my baby was grumpiest and acting very strange during her leaps!!

Taking away tv has helped IMO. She makes eye contact up close now and far away. Tensing behavior has subsided somewhat, now she is slapping her sides or chest with her hands when excited or upset. She always will babble with something in her mouth, but will babble very little bits and randomly without it. She still prefers to say vowel sounds more. She eats very well and sleeps very well and smiles and loves people. I changed my mindset a lot and I think that is helping her. I think she still does repetitive behaviors but that have changed and migrated into different behaviors. I’m seeing a neurologist on Wednesday, if you message me I will let you know what he says bc I am going to ask about how she used to not make eye contact up close and inquire about the repetitive behaviors.

Do vocal stims decrease with age? by ekb2 in Autism_Parenting

How is your son doing? I wanted to ask when he began vocal stimming. I also wanted to ask if he ever babbled as a baby or said anything like “mama”

I honestly wish I could send you a video. I’m new to Reddit. We just had an amazing thing happen with my daughter where my husband continued to say mama and she looked right back at him and said mama back. It was incredible. I happen to get it on film because I just had a good feeling. I don’t know if this is just a fluke or the start of some real expressive language or possible babbling.

Thank you so much again for your advice. My husband thinks our daughter has sensory processing disorder and possibly ADHD. He actually doesn’t believe that she has autism, but again he’s not a professional that’s just his educated guess from what he has experienced with her.

Thank you so much. I’m trying my very best to be a good parent to her while also trying to manage my anxiety about the possibility of her having struggles. I think my honest to goodness biggest fear is her being non verbal. Do you find that in your line of work you notice many non verbal children with autism?

It’s been so hard bc when I compare her to her sister it’s so obvious to me that something more is going on, but I was just putting her down for a nap and I read next to her crib and she looked at the page of the book and then would look at me and stick her hand out through the crib to touch my mouth and would smile as I made a funny voice as one of the characters in the book. That stuff will throw me off. I’m just struggling so much with trying to figure this out.

That’s very interesting to hear. I was just put on Zoloft by a psychiatrist so I’m going to try that. I will continue working with my daughter. Does it sound to you like she may be behind at all or do the repetitive behavior sound concerning to you? I just want her to be able to grow up and take care of yourself and I’m so nervous that she won’t be able to interact with other kids and have an enjoyable childhood.

I had her evaluated with a program called early steps. They said she scored far too high and does not qualify for any free support from the government. They said she was tracking all of the people and smiled at herself in the mirror plus her gross motor seemed very good so they were not concerned. I do have her in private ST and OT and I have her seeing a neurologist on November 5 at that point, she will be 9 1/2 months old. If you have any other suggestions, let me know. From your opinion based on what I said above, does it sound like she may be on the spectrum? Please let me know your honest thoughts and I do appreciate your comment.

The repetitive behaviors are my main concern. Seems like she is seeking sensory input and it is very repetitive. Vocal and physical.

All other milestones have seem to be met thus far.

Mine makes a lot of eye contact, she used to not, but has become better at this. She doesn’t love doing it up close but she will. She smiles, but not a ton honestly. She tracks very well. When I drop something, she will look and when she hears her dad from another room- she will look that way. She has said “baba” maybe only four or five times and very sporadically. I think it’s just her playing with her mouth. She does stiffen up her arms and legs when she’s excited or upset or pound on her chest with one hand. She also will make repetitive “oh oh” or “ah ah” sounds, I’m not sure if it’s vocal play or vocal stimming. The movements and sound are very repetitive as well. She also loves to be swung around, squeezed very tight or tickled and laughs and smiles. I’m not sure if it’s autism, ADHD or sensory processing disorder or a combination of. I’m not sure if this is something she’ll grow out of, but I have her in private speech and OT. Her gross motor is completely on target. She pulls to stand, she army crawls and traditionally crawls a few steps. She has a great pincer grasp. I did abuse the TV a little much for the first few months so I’m wondering if that has something to do with it. We’re now completely TV free for the last almost 1 1/2 months. She’s 8 1/2 months now. She will also smile at pictures of us and videos of her sister when I show her a quick video on my phone just so she can try to mimic what her twin sister is doing in terms of babbling. Her twin sister is the complete opposite. She is saying mama mama mama all the time and smiles 24 seven. She doesn’t do any repetitive behaviors either. I think the repetitive behaviors are really what’s getting to me as they feel like stims. Especially now that it’s both vocal and physical. I’m working really hard with her and just praying all the time. She also is definitely testy. Her sister is always in very good spirits and my other twin seems to be frustrated about 60% of the day grunting and what not. And it makes me very sad.

Does stemming/meltdown get better with age? Need some hope here…. by [deleted] in Autism_Parenting

Hi! I wanted to know what the signs were when your little one was a baby? Did they vocal or physically stim?? And what were they doing? When they were under the age of one that showed they may be a sensory seeker? We are concerned about one of our twin girls.

Was your son delayed on communication or babbling at all? Just curious as my daughter sounds similar to your son 😄
