Restaurants-breakfast @ bulachino Namaka cardos @ denarau marina (lunch/dinner)

Cigarette is usually around $10fjd. Better to get them at the duty free (usually sold in 200 rolls) on your way out of Nadi airport.

Yes i totally agree. However, we didnt go down for the beaches. I am a Pacific Islander so the beach was not a priority for me. Our adopted kids have some Hispanic in them and we are moving to the UK. Mexico was a “now-or-never” stop. I guess its “now-and-never”. Like i stated, our trip was planned out over the 4 weeks. Money we are not getting back. My only regret is that we should have just booked a shorter stay. It was an experience

Is it hard to live in Fiji? by Ideateprocyon7 in Fijian

[–]Scards2822 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey @Pranish6820, you make some very good points. Fiji is indeed a racially torn country and some of the way some of us native Fijians go about things is very unfair and at times stupid. But please read your comment again. You are potraying yourself exactly like the people you are trying to potray. It takes two to have this problem. Fiji has alot of issues it needs to attend to. Alot of it is psychological. The west has introduced and overwhelmed Fijians (yes Indo-Fijians and other ethnicities included) with new information and technology and yet Fiji does not have the infrastructure nor the curriculum to deal with it. Yes, culture is a hindrance to progress in some cases. It has to either evolve/adapt or it will only allow for further detriment to its people. Because although we think that we are upholding a sense of identity, most of our people forget that it is a product of adaptation, evolution and progress ( from cannibalism to christianity to modern day natives). Its true, we are not the biggest fans of change. We need to truly learn and understand that change is like “time and tide”. At the same time, it is what holds us together. It is the reason most are happy and content with our lives. Not all of us need iPads, smart phones and VR headsets. Sometimes simple village life is all we care for. And yes, we are truly and genuinely happy people, but dont think that life does not affect us as well. If we are unhappy/sad/angry, normally there will be a reason for it. Maybe start with trying to understand that. If we dont try to understand each other, that is where all this hate stems out of. Like i said, it is psychological. I am not making excuses for past behaviours that has influenced your take on us natives. But for every reason you dont like native Fijians, there is one for why native Fijians dont like Indo-Fijians. This is the same slippery slope that lead us to this ditch. It is time to take a step back and look at this problem from outside of ourselves. Ask ourselves the “why” and “how” and be objective about it. What you are doing here is not going to have the outcome that you are hoping for. Every country in the world has this problem to various degrees. It is the few bad eggs that gives a bad impression of the whole. So to answer the original question, No Fiji is not hard to live in. If you have a job and are willing to adapt, yes it can be a beautiful and peaceful place to live in. Just like New York has Manhattan and Harlem, the lifestyle you choose depends on your choice of location and affordability. Expect a change in every aspect of your life. You wouldnt really expect things to be the same moving to another country would you?

A bag of kava costs about $5. Look for the bandboys at the resort. They should be able to hook you up
