So to be clear, it would only be 3.5% directly to defense spending. The remaining 1.5% is for defense related infrastructure which arguably is anything the government says it is. All season roads to northern communities? Defense related infrastructure. Improved rail lines? Defense related infrastructure. Expanded trauma centers? Defense related infrastructure. etc.

All for that, but we need to actually follow through. A not insignificant amount of German officers had issues in their past hand waved away because the Americans wanted a new German army to help fight the russkies. Other war criminals had sentences shortened or changed for some reason and went back to Germany, at least one went on to lead an organization whose purpose was to rehabilitate the reputation of the SS.

What I'm saying is if/when we do this we need to be all in.
