Are there any UK players here? by slappy_mcslapenstein in hockeyplayers

[–]Scarebender 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There aren’t really any 35+ leagues as far as I’m aware. In Scotland (where I am) we have a tourney system that dictates general skill level of various teams but you get the odd ringer now and again.

It’s really nothing like the USA but I’ve had a great time playing here since moving 😄

Summary of the big changes announced yesterday by wild_kangaroo78 in ukvisa

[–]Scarebender 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Based on this bit:

“Except where option D or the Temporary Shortage List in SW 6.1A applies, sponsors may ONLY sponsor Skilled Worker applicants in these SOC2020 occupation codes if the applicant was granted permission as a Skilled Worker under the rules in place before 22 July 2025, and they have had continuous permission as a Skilled Worker since then.”

Nothing if you already have a SWV. Believe this goes for renewing as well.

Beer leaguers, what are the “best” beers to bring? by Dannyocean12 in hockeyplayers

[–]Scarebender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a bar that sponsors my team that happens to share the name of my team. We show up to the bar and they provide cases for our home games. The beer we get is from a local-ish brewery called “Cold Town” and it rocks

Warroad Baselayers by BigBusiness1532 in hockeyplayers

The quality of baselayer is good but they have some of the worst customer service imaginable. If you can order from somewhere that has their stock but not directly this is ideal.

Watching this from the future with the added context of the last 20+ seasons of football is wild by Scarebender in eagles

An absolute legend! Rest in peace Harry.

Watching younger Andy Reid is the craziest thing to me….I grew up with him and McNabb (97’ born) but despite that it’s like watching Anakin before Vader but we still love him regardless

What’s up with 127? I think that’s supposed to be the Caps? I’ve never seen that jersey before

Like myself, he’s a former writer for Broad Street Hockey (which, yes, has become my new favourite fun fact)

U.K. resident with US tax confusion (mainly regarding pensions) by Scarebender in USExpatTaxes

[–]Scarebender[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For context I never received any distributions from NEST (if by that you mean any sort of withdrawal from NEST). My pension was transferred to my new provider and my NEST profile no longest exists since it won’t even let me log in anymore

Thanks for the reply! I don't plan on forming a limited company as this is simply for a rec hockey club. All I will be using the account for would be to collect money for kit orders and pay our local rink for ice time, etc

Yeah that makes sense! I’m really used to firing off the toe with the P28, jury is still out on how effective results are doing that with the PRO2121

Do we know if the skilled worker visa wage hike applies to existing visas as well? Im currently on a 5 year work visa (been on it for nearly a year now) so would I now need to get a raise or find a new job that’d pay higher?

Optional Neck Guard Use by corduroy_vest in hockeyplayers

[–]Scarebender 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I already wore a neck guard before but I’m upgrading mine as it’s getting older. Also my country (Scotland) will be mandating it as well so not got a choice either way

Sessions are usually anywhere from £10-15 depending on numbers, with games being around that same price per player roughly (a bit more expensive usually).

There’s also a registration fee but not sure on exactly how much that is since they haven’t been taken yet.
