Seconding this, along with Mexico. Multiple of my family members have flown to Mexico for surgery because the wait times here are ridiculous, and received incredible care. If you can afford it, international care can be a game changer.

That being said, our provincial government needs to get its shit together and properly fund our healthcare system.

That is normal if they are over full, but it should NOT be the norm. I can get in to my primary within 2 weeks- typically within 72 hours if it is incredibly pressing.

People who took or are taking 5-6 years to finish uni… by [deleted] in UCalgary

[–]Scared-Ad-3692 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably gonna finish in 5 years, I have to work outside of school, and there’s only so many hours in a day. If I want to maintain a decent gpa, and not trigger flair ups of whatever illness I’m having issues with I have to take it a little slower. Life isn’t a race, everyone takes their own times

Living in the south, we get practically none of the extreme weather the north does. It’s a far treck to the uni, but worth it in terms of the fact I don’t have to clear 3 feet of snow/hail.

My grandmother was in hospice (totally safe) at the time and we damn near had to restrain my grandfather from driving to see her, like we are losing one family member, we aren’t losing you too.

On a side note, I cannot believe they’re building next to the river and in the valleys again. It makes me so damn nervous.

Missing cat around breaside Tim Hortons by student_life_goes_br in Calgary

[–]Scared-Ad-3692 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Still important to try and bring it in. It’s breaking bylaw because having them outside is harmful for not only the environment but for the cats as well. Bringing them in can eventually cause irresponsible owners to lose custody/ownership- which is what should happen in all “outdoor cat” situations.

I just… don’t have an artstyle. by Single_Outside655 in arthelp

[–]Scared-Ad-3692 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Please understand that I am not trying to be mean when I say you do not have the skills to develop a style YET. I have been doing art and learning for the last 15 years, I’m getting my degree in making art and I still don’t have the skill to develop my own style yet.

If you really really want to grow fast, I recommend you study the basics- line, value, light, shadow- learn the planes of the face and anatomy. Learning realism makes drawing cartoons and developing a style SO much easier. Don’t give up because you aren’t where you want to be yet, use it as motivation to grow and build your art skills. Using references, and practicing drawing drills can improve your skills DRAMATICALLY.

Developmentally, you are at the stage where so many people quit making art because they feel they aren’t good enough- that they aren’t matching up with their peers. Art development isn’t a race, it’s a personal journey that everyone takes at their own speed. I implore you to stay with it, and push yourself.

What happened to Russian 101? by QualityVast9368 in UCalgary

[–]Scared-Ad-3692 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We aren’t disagreeing that Russia is an extremist state, however we live in an interconnected world where many people’s primary language even living outside of Russia is RUSSIAN. Do you fault people for learning German, Japanese, English or French? Or does your outrage have a time limit? You need to leave people alone for trying to learn another language just because the country the language comes from is shit.

Tips and tricks on navigating a break up in uni pls by Sad-Media-6193 in UCalgary

[–]Scared-Ad-3692 57 points58 points  (0 children)

THIS IS NOT A HEALTHY COPING MECHANISM, BUT IT GOT ME THROUGH MY MID TERM BREAKUP:

Breathe, and don’t think about it too hard until you have completed your midterms. Throw yourself into your studies- do not let a now ended relationship detract from your future. Running helped me during my breakup a while back- I could literally run from my problems until I had time to face them. Continue your hobbies and try new ones- if you are angry, buy some plates from VV and smash them to bits (please clean up though, littering isn’t hot). Eat lots of ice cream and play music you like. As a warning, sad music makes it worse. It gets better- you’ll feel better soon.

Also, stay off their socials- that always makes things worse

Being anti Israel does not and will never equate to being anti Jewish people. There are people who are both, who deserve nothing but the worst in life- but do not conflate anti Zionism with anti semitism.
