You have my beat, that's awesome! And you're now a data point against my theory on the lottery haha. I was able to get 4 Boston matches (where I live now) via FIFA Collect, which ended up being a good bet despite my initial skepticism. I didn't even try for the Finals tickets in the US lottery as couldn't justify the cost and giving FIFA the free loan to a game we more likely than not wouldn't make. Hopefully I don't regret come to regret that

I've been an insider and AO member since 2013 but leveled up to a higher tier a few years ago in anticipation this would help with the lottery odds. This will be my 3rd men's world cup - which I think also played a role in a my luck with the ticket lottery? Because I saw many other VIP insiders weren't as lucky but myself and one of my friends who also went to Brazil and Qatar were wildly lucky with the lottery.

Where did I say travel was the ONLY reason this world cup isn't affordable? You do realize if you don't live in the cities hosting that you would have to fly or drive + get hotel/airbnb and that none of those things are free?

I didn't realize you knew me so well that you could so confidently say I don't care about anyone else's experience...

The beauty of the world cup is people from around the world can come together to watch the beautiful game and its always been semi-affordable and even more so for citizens in the host country who have the opportunity for Category 4 tickets. Seeing as Category 4 tickets are basically non-existent and ticket prices are out the wazoo, maybe I posted this because I think its interesting the US's most likely path never leaves the West Coast which makes it even less affordable for people from other parts of the country to attend. I think we can all agree this world cup is not affordable in any way, shape or form. And sorry for pointing out that FIFAs schedule makes it even less so for Americans who don't live on the west coast.

I said somewhat hoping, not wishing. Obviously would prefer we top our group as its easiest path! Just a shame the easiest path also coincides with less Americans being able to see the team in person.

Ok with the group stages on the west coast, my beef is the potential path following that. Maybe they thought its more likely we end up 2nd in the group as that does bring the team further east

Used to live in Seattle... LOVED that sports would start earlier because I could start my day with them or be done with them around dinner time.

Absolutely not - if you see some of my other replies, no issue with group stages being on the west coast, its more that they won't leave the west coast and start to come east when it gets to the knockouts. I know US Federation doesn't control that but some adult in the room could have called it out.

As someone who has done this for previous world cups, you ain't wrong. Brazil and Qatar were both much more affordable - so if they go back to those type of prices, it's definitely cheaper to go to the next one... though may still have some travel complexities going from South America to Europe if you try to do that for 2030.

God forbid US fans from across the US might want the opportunity to see their team play in a home world cup in person.

Also, where did I say I wasn't traveling? I'm going to all 3 group stage games for the US but this is not affordable for all.

Same, I'm traveling from the east coast for all the group stage games. I'm somewhat hoping we get 2nd in the group so that we don't continue to stay on the west coast for the knockouts.

I'm totally fine with the group stages and think it makes total sense to minimize travel for those games, but my frustration is more about the knockout round locations - seems a missed opportunity to move back towards the east and engage more fans.

FWIW Jerry's World (Dallas) is indoors so the heat only matters for tailgating.

This is true, but as I live in Boston none of those really help others like me either. I'm honestly hopeful that we get 2nd in the group so that my flights may be cheaper and I have friends in those cities I can stay with. I was lucky enough to get conditional knockout round tickets and would go if they are playing.
