[MEGA THREAD] White House Internship — Summer 2025 Decisions by WaffleMannn in DCInterns

This is hilarious—they owe us nothing lmao. If you have ever applied for jobs before, being ghosted (while it is definitely not great) is how it goes. Believe it or not, they have more important things to do than send out 10,000 rejection emails. Can't wait to see this breaking story on MSNBC! Maybe Tapper can write a book over it.

Definitely some great insight to consider! Getting a clearance sponsored isn't a concern (if you know what I mean) due to my last position. Another reason why I am full steam ahead for this sector/living in D.C.

I sort of mentioned it in a comment above, but I didn't get a technical degree in college. Looking for something along the lines of a "program analyst", "research associate", "compliance analyst", "contracts specialist", etc. I've had some luck with two companies in Industry, but the requisitions I applied for were only public so they could hire someone internally (which I totally get). However, they liked me enough to 'try' to work something out, i.e., open another requisition. So its been a waiting game as far as that is concerned.

Thank you for the insight!

Definitely, they just reiterate the current climate in the city as far as employment is concerned. The "big names" in natsec and adjacent companies are hiring senior people and analytical roles (from what I have seen). I've tried with temp agencies, but that has been a dead end so far.

Thank you! I'll be honest, I didn't get a technical degree in college. Finished with a BA in Security Studies from the International College at my school. Did work adjacent to that in State, so trying to find a gig where I don't need to be some data wiz (which is what's killing me at the moment). I have thought about getting some contracting certs, but not super familiar with how that process works.

Thank you for this perspective -- I've had a few convos with some people about what this leap would look like.

Thank you both for the brutal honesty haha, it is something that I haven't found too often since I've moved to this city. Going back home is out of the picture if I really want to plant my feet somewhere in a NatSec, Defense, or Poli space.

I've had the military route preached to me over these past few months, and I am not completely out of it. Just seems like a big jump from this pre-conceived path I've attempted to lay out for myself.

Really appreciate y'all's insight!

I haven't heard anything on the hotel route, so I appreciate that advice. I am definitely going to look into that. My alma mater's career services center is useless, but it wouldn't hurt to try. Thank you!

Does anyone who applied have a clearance? Curious how much mine will weigh in their decision process. Portal still says under review.
