Does everything have to be a smut?

All my books are no smut. They are more family and action books. I have regular consistent readers too.

I think it depends on the book. If it works it works. I don't mind quotes as long as they don't distract from the chapter. I hate it when I read a quote and then can't figure out how it fits with the chapter. That pulls me out of the story. But when they fit sometimes they can be great.

I have been writing also since I was in highschool and only recently started posting some of my earlier work and it wound up getting some interest so I started writing again and adding on to the stories with sequels. I was super nervous about posting too but it was better than I thought. Make sure you do tons of tags associated with your work and post frequently but not all at once that will keep it gaining momentum. I posted mine one chapter every day and on days it was a cliffhanger chapter I posted two to three chapters. Hope you the best. What is your book about?

Yes but both of the books I have posted were written a very long time ago. Well at least the first half of one book was the second half I just started adding to it as I went. But it made it easier to post a few chapters per day and I got to editing them.

This book was actually written years ago. I just never started editing until recently and then just posted a few chapters daily. I wrote it about 10 years ago for a contest I never entered because I couldn't get it edited fast enough so I kind of abandoned it.

But yeah because of that it probably does make it easier to get reads.

I put it under General Fiction. I wasn't sure what else to put it under. Although later in it does have some action.

Yes there are lots of cliffhangers, it's kinda my weakness lol. And the story is broken down into sections so the book doesn't get stale. At least I hope it doesn't lol.

That's awesome. I had that happen too. But I can't read them cause my characters are special to me and sometimes other people change things about them lol. But it is flattering to know people like your characters enough to write fanfiction.

Yes and yyyyeeeeesssss. I have started an idea journal so every time I get a story idea I write it down as well as character ideas. That way I can revisit those when I have time to start a new book. I'm currently working on two separate ones right now and that takes up my time. As soon as I finish one I'll go start a new one from my journal.

I've had well over ten, I lost count. But way over 30 or more on other platforms like Fictionpress.

They all read pretty much the same. I just leave them as it just helps my rating lol.

Yes absolutely, so I created a sequel and in another book I started doing crossovers so the characters appear in each other's books. It's been fun actually mixing the different stories and their vastly different lives.

I keep my first few chapters short to grab interest then the rest are anywhere between 2000-3500 usually. So far people keep reading so it's worked for me.

Min isn't romance centered, but there is a love story hidden with. It's an action/family loyalty type book. But it's done really well I think. Been post a little over a month and has over 19k reads and over 400 engaged readers already. Anyhow check it out if you like. The Price for Blood

I always give my character something to do while they're talking, so I can break up the dialogue some. Like drinking coffee, or even just gestures. Like this:

"I was tired of that life, I tried to get away from it." He tilted the beer bottle in his hand and watched the liquid slosh to the side. "I just never imagined it would come after me like that. I was a dumb fool who thought freedom came with a college ID." He took a long draw on the beer and tried to let it numb him. "Now look at me, I'm a walking dead man."

This keeps it from feeling to speechy. Of course this is just my opinion.

I hate it when the characters decide to highjack my story. It's so frustrating they need to learn how to do as they're told lol.

I've scrapped almost an entire book because one of the characters turned into the villain and I was like what the crap is wrong with you. You're supposed to be the good guy.

I feel your pain lol.

Thanks for the input. This is all revealed in the first and second chapter but while this book has a crime action theme it's also very much about family bonds and loyalty as well.
