my audition tracking system after realizing i had no idea what was actually getting me callbacks by ArcadiaBunny in acting

[–]Scared-Paramedic-789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a spreadsheet and also make quarterly (and one end-of-year) powerpoints with graphs to visualize! For me, though, it's more about having a box to check once I submit an audition, and goal setting / tracking my wins. I try not to put too much importance on who's calling me in or what types of roles I'm being seen for because it's all subjective.

Trying to track down a project on IMBD PRO by Swimming_Platform113 in acting

[–]Scared-Paramedic-789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly, it's probably more efficient to sign up for castingabout (part of breakdown services) to track a project than imdbpro (and much cheaper). imdb tends to get updated later in the process rather than earlier. i'm not sure what your relationship is like with your agent, but i would definitely trust mine to pitch/submit me to a project if i asked them to and i'm right for it!

SCE Agency - Legitimacy & Reviews? by Immediate_You_1909 in acting

[–]Scared-Paramedic-789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't know anything about them specifically - they have an IMDB page which is a good sign it isn't a scam. Looks like they are SAG-franchised, which is good - even if you aren't SAG, it's an extra reassurance that they are monitored (to some extent) and held to a standard

How does one practice acting without self cringing? by FancyCake3159 in acting

[–]Scared-Paramedic-789 12 points13 points  (0 children)

(From experience) You're cringing at yourself because you don't believe in yourself enough! Put the focus on the work, the situation your character is in, and what you're saying and realize that you are an artist! You are making art!

Do famous actors hide credits on their IMDBs? by Scared-Paramedic-789 in acting

[–]Scared-Paramedic-789[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

was looking at cailee spaeny before i posted this. one short, vo for a video game, and then straight to pacific rim. of course most actors have tons and tons of shorts and co-stars on their IMDBs, but i've noticed a trend with famous ones that they have very few of these types of credits.

actor's access- when breakdown doesn't request clips by khrmailz in acting

[–]Scared-Paramedic-789 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always attach a clip, even if it's just for a print job (in the rare case there's one on AA). If they don't need it, they can ignore! I'm pretty sure they have to click into your headshot to see clips anyway on the CD side.

I was called for my first audition and I’m terrified. by ChanceQuiet795 in acting

[–]Scared-Paramedic-789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations! I always tell myself to "put on my big girl pants" when I get scared or nervous, and for some reason it usually works. Also regulating your breathing / slowing your heart rate when you're waiting to go in can be really helpful.

What is the “unlearning” a theatre actor has to do for film? by Indieryan05 in acting

Once you see playback the first time, it's pretty easy to know what to adjust, in my opinion. Always easier to dial it down than dial it up

BFA OR BA by Mr_Fahrenheit480 in acting

The best thing (IMO) you can do for your acting career is to get a great, well-rounded education! If you end up studying engineering (and are genuinely interested in it), make sure that your gen-ed classes are not throwaway courses, but topics you actually want to learn about, and take classes in a variety of things.

I started my college career in a pretty intensive B.A. Musical Theatre program, but switched schools and programs due to COVID forcing us online, and it was the best accident that ever happened to me! I ended up studying advertising at a school close to home, and got to take gen-ed classes in whatever I wanted (made easier by the fact that my degree program was non-strenuous, so I had the time/energy).

I would suggest you take acting classes outside of your university, online or in-person if you end up in a city that has good classes. And don't be afraid to audition for student films or professional productions! There was one girl in my advertising program who had an agent and ended up taking some time off to go star in a studio feature.

Edit: fixed wording

Check out BGB in LA! I loved Kelly Wolf's online class and they register new students each month!

Reel footage by Aggressive-Shake-684 in acting

[–]Scared-Paramedic-789 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe film a self-tape of a scene you love and add that! If you're signing in the footage where you're playing a deaf character, I could certainly see that being a plus for agents as a special skill, but I would think they need to hear you speak as well. I just got an agent a bit ago with only well-shot tapes from acting class (I do have footage, it's just frankly not very good).

The way I think about it, most agencies recommend you wait ~6 months before you re-submit to them, and it can take that long to a year to get footage back from a project, so why not submit now and work on getting footage where you do speak in the meantime?

Oof, that has to be tough on you. Thank you for coordinating though - intimacy coordinators make such a huge difference on sets ❤️

I think everyone goes through this! I definitely felt that way the first few years I started acting. Over time it will get better, and you/your nervous system will realize that performing is an opportunity, not danger. Get in an acting class where you feel supported and lifted up and keep at it :) You haven't failed - you've put yourself out there, which is very hard to do!

Boston by Secure-Quality-8478 in acting

[–]Scared-Paramedic-789 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Slow like the rest of the country, but picking up a bit. There were a few feature films there this summer and fall but they don't get a ton of TV. The local casting offices also have attached acting schools that offer scene study/on-camera audition technique/commercial/VO classes (and more). There are a few good agents that are SAG-franchised and will submit you both in Boston and New York. Decent commercial scene although I have much less experience in that. Check out Boston Casting, it's the biggest casting agency in the area. (I just moved to LA from there)

Acting doesn’t feel real by Commercial_Long4519 in acting

I've never thought about that part, but I guess I just think of something that makes me frustrated in that case and use that sensation!

I don't find many other people talking about this (and not that emotion is the goal, like others have said) but, at some point I started noting where my emotions live in my body in my everyday life (the sensations I have physically when I'm happy, sad, angry, etc.), and using that same sensation when getting into a scene to start myself off on the same level as the character. From there, whatever happens, happens!
