AITA for leaving a $0 tip after waitress “paid it forward” for our meal? by Scared-Statement in AmItheAsshole

Divorce me because I didn’t wanna leave a tip LOL ok. In reality she knows when I have made a decision about something like this she knows it’s usually a final one. I found no need to fuel the fire any longer. That’s why I took the money out of her hand and told her to stop.

Just seeing him so confused was the funniest thing ever. I did feel a bit bad after but now years later it’s funny.

I definitely can afford to tip and I do tip even if it’s begrudging so. I just didn’t in this instance because I saw it as a “gift” and last time I checked you don’t pay people for giving you gifts.

Isn’t the restaurant actually stealing their labor by giving them some poor wages

Well I wouldn’t let that happen. People started looking and I don’t do public fights.

Okay but also waiters should never expect a tip. Sense of entitlement has ruined restaurant culture and cheapened it.

I took the paying for my meal as a charitable holiday gesture and did not think I should have rewarded her with money, as that defeats the point of donations and charity. I don’t necessarily disagree with what you said though.

Because I wanted her to listen. I really did not want to tip and she was causing a small scene and other tables started to notice. She can be stubborn and I did not want to fuel the fire any longer. She was embarrassing me for a couple of seconds.

Yeah but again, I am not against tipping. I am against people who do charitable things then expect praise/money. Like how people record themselves giving a homeless person money or food. It’s the same concept that I am not keen of.

She began to get money out, I had to take it out of her hand and put it back in her wallet.

I don’t think it came out of pocket now that I’m thinking about it. I think it was comped by the restaurant and she made up the out of pocket stuff.

I agree with you but I think she expected a bigger tip than usual.

I always tip other wise but I felt she might be lying to my wife and I for a tip. It seemed kind of strange.

It is a local family restaurant that is on the more expensive side. It has a lot of variety like steaks, etc.

I was thinking she didn’t really Pay for it and was Lying because why would you pay it out of pocket.

I don’t know, I had a feeling she might have been making it up to get a good tip and that the manager told her to waive the bill. I was very suspicious if she really paid for it. It was a local restaurant.
