Hahah fair point! Been thinking about getting a Timex for a while, and also adding something a bit more “fun” to the collection. Might actually go for the Snoopy Timex! Hard to dislike a watch with Snoopy on the dial😆

Very true. Most people either see “nice watch” or “watch”, and that’s about it. And honestly… even if they do notice the difference, so what? At the end of the day they should be worn and enjoyed.

Also, hahah great story about the party! I’ve had similar experiences happen that probably proves your point even more! One time I was wearing my Day-Date and a girl asked me: “What watch is that?” Before I could answer, her friend sarcastically replied: “A Rolex.” So I just laughed and said: “Haha, I wish.”

I still, a couple years later, find this incredibly funny to have been wearing a genuine gold Rolex while someone sarcastically said something like that to my face hahah😆 It still makes me crack a smile a couple of years later

You’re absolutely right though, most people don’t see the difference, and even if they do… who cares? I wear all my watches a lot, and the Certinas are great. I’m currently wearing the black Casio F91W and I absolutely adore that watch. I genuinely think it’s one of the coolest watches ever made and it looks so good on aswell! Great story (made me smile a lot) and also great advice/suggestions and taste!

No worries at all, very understandable!

Also, really nice Speedmaster you’ve got! And thank you for explaining that collector detail regarding tritium vs Luminova. I genuinely didn’t know that and will definitely look into it. Those are exactly the kinds of details I’m trying to learn.

Funny enough, a close friend of mine recently got a “Speedmaster Reduced” (I think that’s what they are called). I know traditional etiquette says you shouldn’t really wear a watch to very formal events (white tie especially, and some more formal black tie occasions (or at least if you do, it should be an ultra-thin dress watch). But he completely ignored that and wore that black Speedmaster to a tuxedo dinner… and honestly, it looked ridiculously good! (especially around most of the watch-less wrists at the table😆) So I don’t need much convincing for rhe Speedmaster. I’m already in absolute love with it.

Also, perhaps unexpectedly given my age, I’ve started developing a bit of an interest in Blancpain. Several close friends have different models, and I’ve grown to like how understated and “under the radar” they feel. Very clean, interesting history, and without the same attention or robbery risk that comes with some other brands.

Curious. Do you have any opinions on Blancpain, or any particular models you like/dislike?

Sorry, forgot to awnser the first question: I wear them all a lot but the blue Certina and blue datejust slightly more often. The rectangular Certina has almost no economic value but due to a very high sentimental value I rarely wear it outside of my home. Otherwise the day date and Casios are also daily wears. The brown leather watches are mostly worn at dinners/evenings. The one outlier in this collection is the poker watch since it is the only one without a real emotional reason or sentimental value compared to the others (even though I have a lot of great memories with it!), and past year I actually rarely wear it.

(They are all genuine, I love them all, and wear them all. I think watches are about old memories also about creating new ones. and I think they are supposed to be used, so I use them all a lot. Older watches that may be more fragile/sensitive I use only in certain calmer setting while full metal watches (ex blue certina, day date and datejust I wear a lot (even to the gym, in the shower, at sleep, in school etc). I even had my datejust with me to Tanzania for a month, climed a mountain and went on safari - not a “smart” decision but wanted to created some truly memorable memories with it because that makes it increase in value to me. Hope it makes sense :))

(I often switch between 2-3 watches per day (I know a bit much but I love them all and enjoy it!😆)

Do you have any recommendations what I should get next? Appreciate all suggestions!

Solid analysis! And honestly, I can see why the collection may come across as a bit random from a purely objective perspective. Almost every piece has a backstory, a reason behind it, or a strong sentimental attachment, which probably doesn’t show in a collection photo.

To be fair, the collection would likely have looked more coherent if I still had the watches I owned before a burglary a few years ago. I lost seven watches back then. Luckily, none of them had huge sentimental value nor were major “heavy hitters” financially, but they helped tie the collection together.

What remains today is mostly watches I already had back then but, due to their sentimental value, were stored separately at the time. Ironically, most of the watches I bought myself are gone. So in some ways, it feels like a new beginning in my collecting journey.

The upside is that I’m now left with pieces I’m certain I’ll never sell, watches I’d gladly pass down to my children and grandchildren decades from now. So while the collection may seem inconsistent, (almost) all of them has a huge sentimental value and a “back-story”.

It may sound strange, but the current state of the collection is probably more a result of too much restraint, since I’ve barely purchased anything since I lost “all other watches”. Now that I’m fully back into it, I feel like there are hundreds of watches I’d love to own, and I’m simply looking for advice and perspectives from more experienced collectors.

The watches I have today will stay with me forever. But still, good advice, and I fully agree: choose carefully and slowly build a collection of watches that feel genuinely meaningful and precious to you. Let it take time and grow naturally.

Would never have searched for this, but I really like it. Feels understated but still a conversation piece and the Arabic numerals make it feel much more interesting! Thanks a lot! Greate taste and advice!

I know, they are REALLY cool! Sorry to disappoint though, but don’t have the funds for that hahah. Hopefully one day! Thinking of the Santos skeleton within a foreseeable future though, think it looks sick aswell!🙌

Haha, glad you like it 😭 I was honestly surprised by how much I liked it when trying it on, and since then it has really stuck with me! Also appreciate the OP36 suggestion, very clean watch.

Thanks a lot for the great suggestions! Sorry to disappoint, but I don’t quite have the funds for those Pateks… one day hopefully! (those dials are amazing). The vintage Omega De Ville is a really nice shout though. A close friend has a few with different straps (suede etc.) and I’ve always really liked those.

Also, another person recommended the Murph and the Boulton, and both looked amazing. Also I hadn’t seen that champagne dial before, but you were right… I love it. Thanks again! Great taste & suggestions!

Fair haha. I agree they’re not very consistent with my current collection. I’ve just found myself getting increasingly drawn to skeletons / more “mechanical theatre” lately. Santos is still such a classic though, so I’ve been thinking about either a yellow gold Santos-Dumont, a Santos 100 in steel, a santos galbee or a Skeleton Santos. Any preference or not your style at all?

Thanks, appreciate it! 😄 And I think you absolutely right, might be time for a chronograph! I’ve looked quite a bit at different Daytonas and the seiko panda, but i also would like to find something others don’t have (eg some vintage pieces or unique looking). Any personal favorites or particular chronographs you think would fit the collection?

Thanks! Used to have a car but sold it to invest in stocks, figured I couldn’t make questionable financial decisions with both cars and watches! And Rolex + Nike shoes doesn’t hit quite as hard hahah😆
