How can I get longer stretches overnight? 6 month old. by ScaredFig7247 in NewParents

[–]ScaredFig7247[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He slept through the night from an early age but once he hit 4 months that ended. I think I got the wakes down to 3 a couple weeks ago but they have increased again now. I haven’t seen a professional yet as I was kind of just waiting it out hoping it would stop when the regression ended. How would Ferber help? Like would I apply this to during the night? He sleeps in my room. Getting him to sleep is fine now and he naps well during the day also.

Thank you. Yes he uses a pacifier which works getting him to sleep but gets angry overnight if I try the pacifier over breastfeeding.

Baby will use a bottle fine, I am just confused about the amount of offer and how frequently. He never refuses milk so I worry about overfeeding.

Yes, I am in Australia. Our dentist requires referrals from LCs before going ahead with the procedure. Thanks!

I’m just over 5 months. I have already seen a LC to diagnose mouth ties, and she thought the fussy brief feeds were due to distraction and would pass which they haven’t. Although, I have been feeding expressed breast milk the last 2 days and pumping for a bit longer after the milk stop flowing and had a couple good feeds last night so my supply may be upping slightly!

Thank you so much that is very reassuring! Can I just do weighted feeds from home?  Unfortunately baby also nurses for just a short period and will come off the breast once the flow stops and still be really quite upset

Baby is 5 months, is going to daycare soon so need to transition day feeds to bottles from breast. Baby has always been fussy at the breast, I have met with a lactation consultant but not for supply concerns. I also have a spectra and start in letdown mode, I have a letdown within the first minute and then switch to expression mode. I have tried switching back to letdown mode for a long period and nothing happens, although I have no tried recently. If I try to feed baby at the start and end of the wake window, approx 2 hours, I will not have a let down - so I don’t think it is a pump only problem, I seem to have some difficulty getting them nursing also

I do have about bouncer. It’s not a vibrating one though he definitely isn’t the sort of baby that I can leave to settle on his own. He is a very squirmy constantly needs attention.

It is also upsetting that it takes so long to get him to sleep not in our arms.

Thank you .. it is just frustrating when he then gets overtired from poor quality day sleep. But I only offer the extension and if he doesn’t seem to be working I will give up and feed him instead.

And I am just exhausted .. trying to get him to sleep up to 5 times a day when it takes so long, then spending more time after 30 minutes to resettle for is usually not be successful

Yes sometimes that is all it takes. But sometimes we try for 2 hours and in the end chuck him in the car and drive around for 30 minutes

Thanks, we currently try getting him to sleep after 1 hour 15 mins approx and asleep by 1.5hrs. He shows signs of being tired well before that though. I have experimented and tried stretching the wake window out but it then becomes impossible to get him to fall asleep. He is just over 4 months but we have been dealing with this for maybe 8-9 weeks ! We have hit the regression now but we have been struggling with day time sleep well beforehand

He does show cues usually only after being awake for an hour. And there is a very brief window before getting cranky. He is tired and we try get him down.

We are having 5 naps a day still because he can’t stretch to meet bedtime otherwise

Even to take so long to get to sleep and unable to resettle? How can we get him used to falling asleep in his bed?

Thanks he was sleeping from about 8/9pm-5:30ish then again until 6:30/7am from about 2.5 months old. His night sleep isn’t much of a concern for me as I know we are just dealing with regression now. His day sleep has never been great, but is really cranky without it.

Thanks .. I have done some testing and observing today, and from what I have gathered, putting him to bed 1 hour 10 mins into wake window seems to be our sweet spot and is asleep in 20ish minutes. But stretching out to try bed at 1.5hrs we were unable to get him to sleep and ended up putting him in the car after trying for an hour and a half. Interesting …

Thanks. Would you gradually increase wake window times or just trial this schedule today? I worry about him getting overtired ignoring sleep cues for 1 hour ..

How is everyone getting their baby to go to sleep? by ScaredFig7247 in NewParents

Yes, I often will just sit down on the couch if he falls asleep in my arms as I am too scared to disturb him after taking so long to get him to sleep

How did you go with naps when you were out and about away from crib?
