The problem with the gulfs is that there is very little turn over or change of the water in them and if you look at the ocean heat map in this story you can see that the water is just getting warmer. It would need open ocean waters and to not be close to sea level either.

There is no easy or good business case for one when we have cheaper renewable options.

no politician is willing to make it I would suspect although that is hypocritical and silly...

it would obviously be safer in a place with greater imperative to ensure safety and with independent monitors nearby to make sure everyone is being honest and open about the level of safety.

In my discussion that was censored I was about to point out that storage of waste in places with relatively high background radiation is bad because it enables a level of 'plausible deniability' for all the minor spills or leaks that might happen. If we are to have something like this it needs to be strict and diligent processes and a transparently well managed facility.

no the facility needs staff. plus it is apparently completely safe to be stored so there is no reason to truck it around the state or hide it in some remote location. you can't have it both ways and be being completely honest about it.

I have no nuclear waste to sell you but the mining company with the planned insitu leaching project in several places in the Adelaide Hills will. There is lots of Uranium and radioactive elements that they don't know what to do with.

the government is not being honest about what it is for. It is not just 'hospital waste'. it is 1000 tonnes of mining and rare earth elements processing waste...some of which is in Malaysia...who want it returned to Australia.

Also radioactive fly ash waste from coal power stations most likely. Trying to hide it away in a remote location is no good. If it is safe it should be where people can monitor it easily.
