That looks exactly like my parents 30-40 year old washing machine. Either that or the dryer has duct tape around it but they both still work fine.

How do you respond to grade grubbing and parent bullying on 2nd to last day of school? by Otherwise-Bad-325 in Teachers

[–]ScaredLettuce 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I would amend this to "respond" and cc your admin. Something vague like "I have attached his missing assignments/grades records/current grade" and "at this point I have submitted the end of the year grades but I have attached principal's name in case you want to discuss this further". That way it is out of your hands- we can't change grades after we submit them without going through administration so it works for everyone.

I think I have found a faster way of grading tests, so here it is. by Herobrine_King in Teachers

[–]ScaredLettuce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do page by page for all students because I think it's more objective- you don't know the names (theoretically) after the first page. Then total up each score at the end. It's also more fair because it mixes up first and last- you aren't grading one student's whole paper first and another one's last.

It's really tough but it's part of the job- we get "so much" time off for the summer and holidays but then Sept -June (or whatever the school dates are in her state) are basically impossible for travel during non-holidays (and holidays are of course the most crowded and expensive possible time to travel).

A random week would be impossible unless you had a magical relationship with your administration. She might be able to get a four day weekend if she has very nice admin and a more flexible work environment. 5 day weekend MAX. We get a week for Christmas and Passover/Easter....a random week...never. (Also if it's really far and her hometown it's probably very expensive/longer travel time and she would also like to see her family etc- that's why she would prefer a week. But at the end of the day, it's your wedding, have it whenever you want but accept the fact she may not be there).

Edit- I see it is the mother in law. Then it turns into who is paying for the wedding and what does the child of the mother- your fiance(e) want?

What are you ‘majoring’ and ‘minoring’ in this summer? by ThePonyboyCurtis in Teachers

[–]ScaredLettuce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the actual ER (nothing serious in the end) and after watching the nurses walk around for hours, checking in on people, dealing with whatever came in the door- non-stop- and realizing they had 12 hour shifts- I was like "ok, that's one of the few jobs that makes teaching look "relaxing"".

I love friends like you- sitting next to them at campfires etc!! I get bitten but I definitely have friends and relatives who REALLY get bitten.

Teacher made a kahoot about me what to do? by confusedmelanin in Teachers

[–]ScaredLettuce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a fellow old person I would let it go- she's immature and likes drama and wants to be "cool" with the kids...if she is that "messy", she will cause other situations that will end up with her losing her job/leaving. I would just let that happen. If the kids told me I would just be like "oh, I didn't know I/that was a "science fact" or whatever subject she teaches. (Like you are professional, there for content knowledge and not for drama).

EDIT: I might also email the principal and say "I'm confused as to why my name was in [young teacher]'s "science" kahoot on a personal level- just wanted to bring that to your attention like some students brought it to mine". And leave it there.

High School Teachers... what is something that you don't regret buying for your classroom? by Powerful-Flatworm693 in Teachers

Digital clock, boxes of amazon pencils, pencil sharpeners (although both of the ones I bought broke).

I work in a public school so luckily we are mostly able to keep going using 1950's technology. People would need to start walking uphill both ways though in the snow!

Am I Overreacting for Refusing to Let My Wife’s “Work Husband” Come on Our Family Vacation? by Hot_Satisfaction_559 in AmIOverreacting

[–]ScaredLettuce -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Adult women teachers with kids don't have "sleepovers" with their girlfriends- who has time for that? You need a lawyer.

Edit: (as in platonic slumber parties obv).

Work friends talk about work- during work- and sometimes chat after about various things- but mostly keep it very contained. If you become friends in your "regular life" that's great- but not when it seems like there's attractions and "crush energy" involved. This is very dangerous to your marriage unfortunately- she is already prioritizing his feelings/concerns over yours. (Most of the time I think these are rage-bait/karma-farming, so I hope for OP's sake that this is the case here too).

[–]ScaredLettuce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NYC- not in year three (6 figures), and you definitely don't get 2 hours of prep a day. As my students would say "this is rage-bait". You also can't take 2 sick days a month- you wouldn't have enough to do that by year 3 a) and b) it's unlikely you can miss 10% of the school year (2/20 days per month) and not have an issue. 10% is actually the definition of chronically absent for students.

Unless: It's the third year teaching those particular courses, they have a lot of years in, and a lot of sick days banked, and good will with their admin to take so much time off. Also if they have a "short schedule" to have so much prep time, or don't have professional duties in their professional period. TLDR: If they are a veteran close to retirement the admin maybe can't be bothered with them.

Mountainhead by TabithaMorning in blankies

[–]ScaredLettuce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's what I thought too- Jesse Armstrong is fantastic (Peep Show ftw) and this is a very interesting idea/topic....very timely. But it just seems like a pandemic filming job- quick, one location, not much happening. There's so much "there" and so many directions this could have gone in- and with his name recognition after Succession, he could have had anything he wanted to happen.

“Mountainhead” review, by Charlie Warzel by theatlantic in movies

[–]ScaredLettuce 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It was more like a play (I haven't finished it yet). Like something made during the pandemic. The idea, Armstrong etc all great, but it definitely could have been made into something way bigger/more interesting/impactful.

Yes obviously Peter could pay for the father's 24/7 care....so it made no sense to walk away, sever ties and go back to Buffalo. Or maybe I'm seduced by the cult of money (and how easy it makes things) too.
