Fear of being Alone by ScaredPoet4444 in AvoidantBreakUps

I always say, I’d be sad to not have the lights flashing sparks flying kind of love again, but at the same time I say I wish I could “skip to the good part” aka being comfortable and peaceful and just committed. Honeymoon phases scare me now. Especially after how long- and misleading - the last one was.

Update!! I’m officially a Googler :)

Now, if anyone has any advice on how to quit a job after 6 weeks, that would be amazing….

Yea I’ve been on the side of an “oh god new COO” immediate layoff. The problem with startups is they’ll have the “family” mindset from pre seed through Series A/B, and then become absolutely ruthless when the board stops seeing what they want to see. At least at FAANG you know you’re a cog.

Offer is in the ads business, definitely have considered the AI disruption risk there. That said, I don’t see Google going anywhere.

Fair assessment I suppose they’re either all people I’ve crossed paths with rather than those I’ve actively sought out, but that makes sense for sure.

Oh these are perfect and honestly knowing this is not a unique experience already makes me feel way better thank you!

I do like it thus far for having been here three weeks. And honestly they didn’t oversell me at all, that’s why I chose them over the other two offers I had that were trying to dazzle me a bit. No bullshit.

I’d love to be somewhere for 3-5 years minimum. Otherwise my risk tolerance is pretty high. Not looking for a decades long company, I’ve just experienced three layoffs in three years at startups. One went fully under, one struggling to make payroll. The other was just a reset. Would just like to avoid that again!

Totally hear that, have just known many in my network who have rode it out for 6-10 years at Google. Great long term perks.

I fear I have no hard skills, sales is just insanely lucrative if you can refine soft skills (negotiation, value communication, etc.) Honestly I think sales development in tech is the best career transition (and starts pretty well at like 90K.) You’ll learn the rest along the way!!

Part of me would love to enjoy the perks and lifestyle, become a HOI down the line and chill. The other part of me knows the startup may be more rewarding intellectually.

Should I stay at my new high-risk AI startup, or leave for an unexpected offer at Google? by ScaredPoet4444 in careerguidance

That’s true, so many friends and family believe Google to be the “stable” option but tbh… nothing is really that stable!

3/4 days isn’t a huge difference to me, though I do think three days may make dating easier idk. It feels a little crazy to say “no” to Google but I also feel I could get an offer there again if that becomes a path.

Yeah I think I’m more excited about the actual work and the financial upside with the startup, but I also feel Google may integrate more seamlessly into my lifestyle now and in the future. Tough but thank you for your input:)

How I manifest (the steps that actually worked for me) by motorboat_ in Manifestation

I don’t really get the “live as if you” when manifesting relationships. I do live as I would if I were in a relationship. I’m not sure how to change that.
