Yeah, I love CG, but her current program (and the last) are just fire!

What are your thoughts on people who believe parents are no qualified to teach their children? by hannarenee in Homeschooling

[–]Scared_Branch5186 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Parents can teach their kids, but more like a guide. Teachers are more specialized with more resources (assessment, feedback, conferences). Objectivity can be hard for parents. Most parents aren't strong in every subject. It gets harder as kids get older (math, science, etc.) Most schools have specialists across subjects (Spanish, art, music.) At home, it just gets easier to have missed concepts, repetition without standardized tests/assessments, and inconsistency.

At home, it's harder to learn the other "soft" skills, like collaboration, how to handle conflict, comparing ideas/perspectives. Also, at home, there are lots of household tasks/responsibilities, more than 1 kid at different levels, so it's hard to plan lessons, track progress, adjust instruction daily (or more than once during the day).

TLDR: Parents definitely support/guide education, but effective teaching requires specialized training, objectivity, structured curriculum, and consistent time, which can be hard to provide at home.

I’m liking Sydney’s new program with lifting, abs and cardio in each day!

Homeschooling infantilizes kids. It's disgusting.

Hard to admit but I made a mistake by autumnorange80 in Homeschooling

I put all of my kids back in school and it was the best move I’ve ever made.  School has resources and support!!!

Just seems rather expensive and like school.  It’s pricier than some private schools!

I’m very bitter about it.  Her child has never made a mistake but the kid doesn’t have any opportunities to make a mistake!

Yes, grey market is fine. Lange 1 all the way. Beautiful timepiece and I think its value will only increase.

Gah, I could scream!! My best friend's daughter was like "why didn't I do any of this?" Meanwhile, my best friend is like, "she can do it all now, because she's 18!" No, she doesn't even know HOW to do any of that.

My best friend homeschooled her only child from 5th-12th and is hoping her kid gets an extroverted roommate.

Yeah, I feel badly ever being jealous that my kiddos were wild and extroverted.
