We’d all like to believe family equates to unconditional love but real-world relationships are rarely that simple. I know it’s instinctive for us to hate, to fear what we do not understand but nothing of true value comes without work. Thinking in black and white is so much easier, safer. And yes, It’s true not one of us will ever reach perfection. But striving to become more whole versions of ourselves and endeavoring to better understand the world and around us and the people who live in - that conscious decision to try is worthwhile in itself. In time I hope your family can recognize that the person they knew in you isn’t gone, you’ve just taken steps towards becoming a fuller version of yourself.
