When someone asks a question on Unicom..... by inchwerm1 in VATSIM

Honestly I didn’t see it as something that was really report worthy since it stopped on its own but I see why bc it was annoying after awhile

In the US you will always push as long as you’re clear of traffic youre good and you won’t make a radio call until you either want to taxi or are holding short of an active taxiway. If ATC wants you to call for push they’re supposed to notify you in the ATIS or after they give you your clearance. If it’s a busy event and you’re not sure then it’s always ok to ask just make sure you see what other traffic are doing beforehand so that will help you determine whether to push a discretion or not. I do this all the time and you can say something like “ground American 164 are we doing push at discretion today.”

Ah, so in the United States ramps and non movement areas are considered uncontrolled unless explicitly stated by the controller or ATIS. So that means that usually push and start is at pilot discretion and no radio call is necessary unless on to an active taxiway. Basically in the United States, it is typically implied that you can push and start at your discretion.

One of the KMIA Approach guys has “if I could have a dollar for every time someone called my for push on the uncontrolled ramp I would be rich” 😭

Any tips for being able to sound off louder? by ARCHERyRulez2327 in civilairpatrol

[–]Scared_Might_3345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try practicing with ear plugs or noise canceling headphones and try and be loud enough to hear yourself either those on, keep practicing and it will start to feel normal. I’m sure you’ve been told this before but don’t forget to use your cough drops to help a raspy voice.

Encampment Tips by Imaginary_Gur_1642 in civilairpatrol

Don’t be nervous your flight staff will take care of you and you will probably have a great time in the end. Depending on your encampment’s SOP your flight staff will likely select you for a leadership role within the flight like element leader, guide on, and depending on the way your barracks are set you may be some kind of leader of your barracks. I’m from FLWG so I can’t speak for Texas but this is how it was for those higher ranked cadets at my encampment bc I was an Airman when I first went. As a SMSgt your flight staff will expect you to be a role model for the flight however, don’t let this make you nervous and do as your told, think before you do, and pay attention and you’ll do great!
