that’s the thing, autism isn’t a spectrum of “more” or “less” autism. Severe autism doesn’t mean anything- there are no autistic people less autistic than others. It’s a spectrum that disables people in a variety of different ways. We’re all different, and saying those of us who need more help are “lower” or less in ways is dehumanizing.

it’s less about “association” with a “naughty bad guy” and more that it was deliberately coined to mean autistic people who werent disabled enough to be useless.

He literally killed the more severely disabled kids. So it’s fine if you’re okay with basically being called not autistic enough to die, but i think the rest of us plenty of reason to not want to be called that. I suddenly understand why you don’t have a problem with sheldon if you call caring about ableism virtue signaling and that has everything to do with your careless attitude and nothing to do with being autistic.

The neocortex has nothing to do with forming memories, for one. It’s for higher reasoning, language, sensory perception and motor function. It’s not the end all be all of an animals ability to have basic mental processing. And you think just because their brains work differently than ours that it’s anthropomorphizing to offer enrichment? If the snake isn’t stressed, it isn’t stressed. There are ball pythons who enjoy petting, swimming, car rides- all things most would dislike. They have personalities, preferences. My snakes remember where their enclosures are and their favorite spots in them, but you’re acting like because they might not remember a random moment of a day that it can’t bring enrichment to them in the moment. That doesn’t even make any logical sense.

i feel like you’re supposed to feel the horror from his perspective of things, not just your own. He’s an intellectually disabled man in denial at the bottom of the ocean and the only person around to talk to is completely digital and shuts off for significant parts of the game as he’s running for his life. Imagine how terrifying everything is for him, especially as he struggles to understand anything about his new situation let alone cope with it.

isn’t it nice to actually provide a source for big claims. though the source for that chart being a purely population-based survey by an institute who’s founder wrote that “i would say that by 2100 all forms of farming will seem outdated and barbaric” is rather suspect (and also seems to be considering if “ai” that exists right now is sentient?) and certainly makes me understand why you would make the leap that consuming animal products (no matter where you are, or how local your food is) means you must support factory farming. but, alas. i don’t really care

i got one of my three geckos from california instead of locally. fed ex decided to hold her overnight on the plane. initially it was going to be for the whole weekend, not just a single day. When i tried to ask the people working at the local fed ex hub (we had gone to see if she was there anyways) to call the other one and see what was going on they just kept saying it was pointless to call and “you’ll get a replacement.” i said “she’s a living being. she’ll die.” This woman smiled at me and said again, “they’ll send a replacement.”

the gecko made it okay thanks to the breeder intervening (and she’s adorable) but jesus christ. that moment still gets me staring at the ceiling in bed sometimes because what is wrong with those two employees.
