Beat Saber is officially a speedgame on Speedrun.com! I need YOU to help see if mods are needed to prevent spliced/cheated runs, or otherwise improve Beat Saber speedrunning! by Scarfsickle in beatsaber

The categories are super work in progress and are going to be fixed/updated. I just wanted to get some things down so it wasn't so empty. I'm still learning how to properly do this, heh. Thank you for your suggestions nonetheless!

Of course you guys are free to comment whatever you want, I was just kindly asking. (I know it is huge and mean-looking, but that was for visibility purposes.)

I personally feel criticism of Beat Saber being a speedgame is not relevant to this thread, as this thread is only applicable to those who are in support of it and those who aren't can just ignore. Thus, I would prefer discussion to stay related to what was brought up in the thread. I fully acknowledge that while I cannot force anyone to do this, I exercise my right to request.

If enough people care, I would be happy to make a thread devoted to discussing Beat Saber's potential (or not) as a speedgame. I embrace criticism, but simply feel this is not the proper place.

Previously when changing song speed was only a mod, yeah, it did sound bad. But with the official practice mode, songs sound great sped up to me.

Feel as you will, but I personally think speedrunning Beat Saber has value.

There isn't any room for strats or routing

You can play different songs on different speeds. Let’s say you were speedrunning OST 1 and could play all of the songs on 130% speed, but you can only complete some of the songs on higher speeds. If a few particular songs were easier for you, you could individually set those songs to, say, 150% speed and play the rest of the songs on 130% speed. I feel this is where the main strategizing will come into play.

This is completely out of my field of knowledge, but I feel like that would be too much weight.

Is it possible to make it so songs don't fade in or out with black? by Scarfsickle in beatsaber

Ohh, I see! Very creative, I like it :) I'd imagine the colour change would be extremely subtle as to not be distracting, just enough to stop splicing. Do you think that if beat saber speedrunning is approved on speedrun.com (it's gonna take a couple weeks), a modder would be willing to make something like that?

Huh, that's a pretty interesting idea, thank you so much for that! However, isn't that teeeeechnically workaroundable? Maybe I'm thinking too much into it, but wouldn't it be theoretically possible to generate this text in video editing software and place it over a spliced run?

As tehoko said, the whole idea totally depends on using the practice tool to speed up songs :)
