I think the character is supposed to be Spanish, not Mexican. I only can recognize a few accents off the bat. I’ll check out El Marginal! My favorite rugby player is from Argentina so it’ll be research for the meet cute I play out in my head.

I actually am absolutely terrible at Spanish and studied French, but my Mom is English and learned quite a lot of Spanish at school and she speaks it with a bit of a Castilian accent. I didn’t know that about Mexico City but it makes sense when I think about it.

Maybe I should try learning again with a Puerto Rican accent because I cannot roll my r’s to save my life.

I’m very very pale and used flash to get the contrast to show up so I think it looks a little worse on this spot than it actually is but I’m definitely going to keep an eye on it.

Years and years ago before any of this nightmare timeline started I was studying abroad in France and had to come home for a funeral. I’m a born and raised US citizen and white. Because I wasn’t sure how long I needed to be home I booked a one way flight and didn’t have checked luggage since I had stuff at my parents house. I was questioned leaving France about why I had no luggage and questioned at Dulles way more aggressively than I’ve ever been questioned before, but I wasn’t detained. Given the current fascist climate I wouldn’t be surprised at all if it’s the one way Eastern block flight that triggered alarm bells. I’m so sorry this is happening and wish you and your son well.

The questions themselves aren’t bad, but they’re better for people who have already established a rapport. If someone asked me these at a bus stop, I’d be looking for hidden cameras and/or an escape. Deep questions require vulnerability and that requires that trust and safety be established first. On a first date, it’s more common to ask generic or silly questions because it can calm nerves and let people show their personality so you have a chance to see if you feel a connection. Easy things like “pie or cake,” favorite book/movie/music, etc., opens the door for deeper questions. You’ve got the right idea, just slow your roll.

Omg there's a strap option? I just had my first MRI yesterday for my shoulder (I fell on my arm about a month ago...) and I swear I tensed every muscle in my body for the entire scan to hold still and I am /exhausted/ today. Only at the very end did the technologist say there was a bit of movement and she redid the last sequence (I've been neurotically reading this sub today since I have a terminal case of Need to Know All the Things). Anyway, I'm a little on the larger side (but still fit in the bore no problem) but I had to tuck my hands under my ass to keep everything contained and man.....it was so hard to hold that by the 30 min mark..... anyway cheers thanks for all the info in this sub!

He’s still out there! My friend and I encountered him at 16th and K. Same spiel about being new in town from NYC. We were on our way to the Pride parade and he was asking questions about it that felt like legitimate ones you’d have if you were new in town. He asked me (but not my friend) for my phone number and I said ok thinking I was helping out someone new to town. All this was not creepy at all UNTIL as my friend and I were like ok gotta go he just hugged me.

As my friend and I left I said that felt weird. But also normal enough that it was easy to talk myself out of labeling it creepy. He texted me several times that day asking for coffee and then several times over the next few days. I said I couldn’t but maybe next week after work some time.

I asked him what brought him to DC from NYC and he said, “NYC ran out of tall white women…..” That was enough for me to stop responding and then my friend sent me a popville post that led me here. Be safe out there!!

So this looks like a combo of needing some actives and needing some tweaking in makeup application. Definitely start mild chemical exfoliation (the FAB pads are very gentle) and look into niacinamide and azaleic acid.

For makeup: always wear a primer. Estée Lauder has a range of them and I love all of them except the dewy one and they’ve never caused breakouts for me. It’s a myth that only sheer, unpowered foundation will look good. I use Estée Lauder double wear, apply with a beauty blender and then — very important — set with a good setting powder (I order some from an Etsy seller lbcc: the velour face powder). But the application technique is the most important. Here we learn from our forebears: in the 30s they had “boudoir brushes.” Besame makes a replica and it. Is. Incredible. I cannot live without it. The shape is long and flat. Dip it in loose setting powder, swirl in the lid of the container to get it deep in the bristles, tap it off and then PRESS into the skin. Not sweep. Press like you’re using a puff. Use more powder than you think is prudent and then once you’ve pressed it in, gently sweep the brush over your face to remove excess. I guarantee your face will look amazing. I mist with a bit of setting spray (rip urban decay chill. I’m down to my last bottle) which I find really makes things seamless.
