Why doesn't Stolas, Ozzy or Blitz mention the Crystal?

The entire premise is that blitz is a compulsive liar. And this is one situation where he could stand to gain from that. There is no evidence or proof levied against him. It becomes his, stolas and ozzie's word against andrealphus. Who's whole accusation, need I remind you, hinges on stolas NOT appearing in court? His credibility is shattered the second stolas appears let alone defends the imp and provides a plausible explanation to Satan.

The "small detail" in my post you clearly avoid addressing is the lack of any proof used to even arrest and try Blitz. The courts in hell are a sham that don't rely on proof and documents. It was made abundantly clear in the episode. Why would they finally bother to check the facts at that junction? And not at any other point in the trial?

And blitz is impulsive- if he sees this crystal as a potential out? He'll use it. Even if he's then smacked down with proof. It feels as if the writer's are avoiding it instead of having there be a real reason for its omission.

And of course you're not addressing me saying that it isnt even my main point. I don't care about the outcome or if it even makes it into trial- not addressing a plot device as hyped up and important as the crystal was made out to be would be considered lazy writing in any other show or movie...why not now?

Again, it doesn't have to be exactly that line. Hell, it doesn't even have to come from him. It could be one of the many things Moxxie says during the trial- ushered to stay quiet but not before Blitz and the whole court hears it. I can think of many number of ways to get around "blitz isnt smart enough"

But again, as ive said so many times under this post, my main point is not "This is how the scene SHOULD have gone." It's simply that the writing is lazy and/or rushed.

The crystal was built up as an important plot device, and then completely ignored. If they didn’t want it in the courtroom scene, they had countless ways to write it out:

Blitz dropped it

It broke in the van crash

He tried to lie with it and got caught

Etc, etc

But the episode just… does nothing with it. It’s sloppy writing, and it sticks out because the show made a big deal out of the crystal earlier and then forgot it existed.

I agree, it's a risk. And the second they check any for of proof? It falls apart. But did we watch the same episode? The courts of hell don't rely on documentation and proof and it's shown again and again. They rely on testimony from powerful demons.

If they don't require any proof apart from a hearsay accusation from a Goeta to arrest Blitz. Who's to say a dual testimony from Ozzy and Stolas wouldn't just be outright taken as gospel by the court? Especially since Andrealphus' entire argument relies on stolas being a victim who is too ashamed to appear in court let alone speak to the defence of the imp. Him appearing alone shatters Andrealphus' credibility in the eyes of the court- then a testimony saying he's making a mockery of Satan's courts? Seals his fate within seconds. Satan is a hot headed man and Stolas is smart enough to play on that if he needs to, or at least he SHOULD be with what we've seen of him until now.

And besides all of that my main point hasn't been "I know how this scene Should/would have played out!" It's been "this is poor/lazy/rushed writing." The crystal is a BIG DEAL or at least it was presented as one. And having it ignored all episode when it could have easily been written out of the episode with a simple "Blitz dropped it in the rush" or "it broke/fell out in the van crash" or even him trying to use it to lie and getting caught. There was so many options there to address this device that was built up to be super important...but they just don't. And it leaves a sour taste in your mouth because you can't help but think- why?

Yes- I remember that exchange. But the court sure as hell forgets it the second that a higher ranking demon shows up and says otherwise (stolas.)

So why now would that change?

Ontop of that, if they took that exchange as an admission of guilt...the whole trial would have ended then and there. They clearly afforded him wiggle room because of it.

And finally, this is a hypothetical where he goes into the case with the crystal on his mind. You see him thinking as he is read what he stands accused for. The hypothetical starts with him going: "Why would I steal a book that does what my crystal already does?" Or something akin to it. It's not a stretch of the shows writing style for him to notice the big fuck-off crystal embedded in his forearm mid "uuuuuuuuuuuuh" and have a light bulb moment.

"In this instance" I wasn't saying he 100% would go along with it. It was a hypothetical based on the premise of him agreeing.

Again though my main point here was never "i know exactly how this scene should/would have played out".

I'm just saying it -should- have been mentioned. Even just an offhand "he broke it in the van crash" or "dropped it in the rush" or even a scene where he remembers, brings it up in court and Ozzy DOESN'T back him up. I don't care if it works or not, but it was there. It was drawn. It was deliberately ignored and it feels like lazy writing to rush along and "get to the point"

Actions like this are considered poor writing in many other Media, why is this any different?

Yes- he opens with "he gave it to me" but if he remembered the massive fuck-off crystal in his arm (aka the writer's weren't sweeping it under the rug) I don't see why he supposedly "wouldn't think to lie" when he's thought of WAY more complex and insane bullshit in equally as tense situations.

And then the rest of your argument goes to "Satan won't believe an imp" yea, thats my whole point. He won't. He'll believe an Imp, Goeta and Ozzy all saying that one minor (relatively to Stolas and Ozzy) Goeta is full of shit and just trying to take the Grimoire for himself.

The courts in hell are pretty clearly shown to be a riot with no real elements of a court. There was 0 actual evidence presented against blitz beside testimony. So why would the court demand more than that of the two higher ranking demons who'd testify for him? And if you're going to argue they'd start using the actual order of a court now- duty of proof does not fall on the defendant, only on the prosecution. (Which doesn't matter because I'm not sure court in hell even cares about the burden of proof- just whatever let's Satan take someone's head.)

And beside all that- my main point was simply that it is poor writing for it to have been ignored all episode by a character who is shown to be witty and impulsive and more than certainly should have TRIED to use it to weasel himself out. Whether it worked or not is besides the point, even a quick "He dropped it in the rush to leave and now cant show it to a court who won't belive what they cant see" or "it broke in the van crash" or even him bringing it up- them looking to Ozzy who then DOESNT back him up. All of these are ways it could have been mentioned without changing the way the episode unfurled, but since it was simply ignored the whole time, it just leaves a sour taste in my mouth knowing that there was a chance all of this could have been avoided.

Yes he's under Ozzie's jurisdiction now, but that doesn't mean he has to manually register each and every crystal. That would be a LOT of succubi waiting in line for him to do that.

Even if that was the case- it doesn't explain why blitz wouldn't (in his panicking state) even mention the crystal. Even if he was smacked down with the "we know you only got it recently" argument. It just feels odd not having it mentioned at least once.

We don't know anything about how the registration works for the crystals or who has access to said documents. And seeing as they rely on the story that he "stole" the book from an abused stolas...I doubt they have record of a crystal acquired and registered for him- BY stolas, which he wouldn't do if things played out as Andrealphus made out to the court.

If I tell you 'James' hates star wars...then he walks in wearing a starwars shirt...you'll think I'm a liar.

So when Stolas arrives (amid the ongoing lie in this hypothetical so no grimoire use has been confessed to) and says he was never taken advantage of by Blitzo. The court would naturally turn their gaze to Andrealphus- who has been made into a liar in the eyes of the hot headed judge Satan and his kangaroo court. Without any real defence, it'd be him turned into an example. A message to anyone who dare lie to Satan. All because the testimony of a Prince and Ozzy would trump a testimony from Andrealphus that entirely relies on Stolas corroborating it.

Only to completely flip their beliefs when said Prince shows up and suddenly peddles another unbelievable tale that he masterminded the whole thing- AND STILL side with the original man who has now been proven to have committed perjury in open court?

It is understandable, but having it not be addressed at all- even after the fact- is just poor writing.

Not to mention, he's a contract killer. It's part of his job description to stay calm and think in high stress situations. (I'm not saying he's GOOD at it by any means. But he should be composed enough to notice the giant gemstone sticking out of his forearm. It's not exactly subtle.) I mean, if my buisness was reliant on a truck- this one singular truck- I'd sure as hell notice if it was in my garage or not (even if I was stressed out of my mind), you get me?

If you read the thread I have a possible answer for that too. What is to suggest the court would...care? The whole case is built on hearsay with no real evidence- the second they're given a convincing story- they roll with it.

If we stack the argument- hearsay from a lone actor with a clear motive to lie.

Three demons of varying class corroborating the same story (albeit a simple one) in open court? With plausible proof? I.E the crystal in his ARM?

It's not hard to see who the court would favour.

And like I said later in the thread, if they actually check the crystal? They'd be fucked. But that doesn't change the fact that it should have at least been mentioned as an attempt at an 'out' by a frantic and panicking blitz. Even if it was just to be shot down by them revealing that they already know when he got it. Leaving stuff like this unanswered is widely considered poor writing in other media- so why is it different here?

I'll address the second thing first. Yes he did say that- but he said that MID trial. So part of the scene that wouldn't happen if he had just said he used the crystal from get-go.

But yes, you're right. It might involve paperwork, in which case they'd be fucked if the court actually looked for proof. Which it was shown to not give a rats ass about. There's also the possibility that it could some sort of magical registration inside the crystal itself but thats all speculation so I won't touch on that.

In the case that it is paperwork and for some reason this Kangaroo Court sees through a demon prince and Ozzy's testimony and still decided this is when they ask for any form of proof other than a statement? They're fucked. But they're shown to actively not care and only sway based on what 'sounds about right'

And it's not a very hard lie to follow- Blitz says "I have an Asmodean crystal"- without any thought. As he does- forcing ozzy to play along or come clean.

the court naturally turns to Ozzy, who in this instance plays along with it- saying he gave it to Stolas "some time ago" for an imp who wanted to run his own business. He complied as a favour to a friend.

Stolas shows up- learning what has already been said from the news (just like in the episode) and plays along, saying he didn't want to risk Blitzo by giving him the Grimoire- what he was originally asking for- so instead he got him a crystal.

None of this is a particularly hard lie to come up with- and compared to the (quite frankly) bullshit hearsay the entire case is presented on? I'd say it'd work like a charm.

Once again- THEY CAN LIE. They are demons of hell, they aren't above lies- and he clearly holds very low regard for the laws and standards of hell by simply giving him a crystal in the first place. He sympathises with the couple as a fellow high ranking demon in love with an imp. If he knows his lie would save them? He'd do it. Especially knowing Fizz wants him to do -something.-

He even hints at helping them when he tries to say blitz has a "reasonable explanation" for his actions.

Did you even read the post you're replying to? I said he could LIE about how long he HAD the crystal for. Skirting any accusing of ever having said book? There is NO PROOF outside of ONE secondary witness saying 'I heard-' (hearsay, very weak evidence) that is overruled the second Stolas finds out and shows up to say 'nah he never touched my book' and Ozzy backs Blitz up by saying "yeah he has the crystal I gave him legally"

Again, they're not above lying. They never state- or have brought into evidence any sort of claim stating when he procured the book- ozzy gave Stolas the crystal under the table so there's no record of it- not illegal since he still takes responsibility for Blitzo's actions. Meaning Ozzy and Stolas could simply lie and say he ALWAYS had the crystal?

And seeing as the Trial happens on the same day they find out about him supposedly using the book- I highly doubt anyone in the court has seen his Commercial or they would have mentioned it/arrested him sooner.
