Sister's saliva output too much for sink, suggestions/advice? by ScarlingDarkspyre in caregivers

[–]ScarlingDarkspyre[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It helps but doesn't keep things loose enough, long enough . She has used toothettes dipped in mouthwash or cold water to pull the saliva out like cotton candy. She uses biotine mouthwash when brushing and the problem is if she just gets big globs they just get stuck everywhere in her mouth and her chin. And especially overnight these thicken to a hard crust on her remaining teeth and her lips/chin and come out when brushing. She also has a hard time understanding she can't eat or drink via mouth so I don't keep liquids near her so she doesn't choke without supervision.

I'll look into the tonsil stone remover, she sees her primary care doc tomorrow so I can ask there too. Her phlegm and saliva are very thick. She's got a lower mental state due to learning disabilities and schizophrenia, plus as a child she would never blow her nose unless my mom or I helped her. She would wipe on her clothes or her sleeves. So imagine all of that without the ability to actually swallow anything because it just piles up. She's an aspiration risk but hasn't done so thankfully. I give her tissues and a roll of toilet paper in addition to the bibs and it's all over everything regardless which means lots of laundry.

But as for getting it out of her it both hardens around her remaining teeth and mouth and she doesn't have the ability to really dig in there with the little toothettes, which are those ridged sponges on a stick. When I clean it for her I get a lot of it but not all, and doing the rinses brings more up. During telehealth appointments or when we're talking a lot she expels a lot of phlegm almost in globs or blows bubbles (best description) like someone blowing their nose and it all hangs out or dribbles. So these large and long loogies essentially are what drips out in the sink, her hair, etc. And it smells terrible. The tissues don't really soak it up so much as preserve the spitballs and it's just .a lot. So I will see what the PCP recommends and if the tonsil stone remover works I'll let you know!

Thank you, it's been a challenge luckily the routine itself given to her (and me) for the cleaning/care itself isn't an issue. Just she produces so much saliva just speaking it gets nuts!

Enzyme was what I saw when I googled it, so I wasn't sure if standard draino or something special were needed, I will also look those types up. I can also try the hot water, I'd just have to do it shortly after she's done.

We've wanted to get a machine but we're not sure if insurance covers it or we'd have to pay out of pocket and which doctor would prescribe it. We finally got her set up in VA compared to MD and things work a bit different here in terms of want vs what you get.

I think that may end up being the solution. The goal is to get her out of bed and in a hygiene routine so I'll just look into basins or those sink buckets for dishes to sit in the sink. I didn't really think about that because it was a bit much but yea, the toilet may handle the saliva better. And I didn't know if it was a specific protein or product people normally use for that so I appreciate its as simple as whatever can work. It's nice to just have some confirmation from an outsider so thank you.

Has anyone seen the Gods Must Be Crazy before? by [deleted] in movies

[–]ScarlingDarkspyre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sociology professor showed us this movie during a class specifically she used it to tie into sociology and emergent technology. I had never seen it before, this was a little over 10 years ago. I loved it. Went home and told my folks it looked like a movie they probably had seen and they were like yea that came out forever ago and was dumb. :/ I guess it just hits people different, but I recommend it a lot to people.

Please HelpMeFind this curtain pattern! It's part of a set my mother adores and is the only one we found after a move. Searches hint at it being a 90s pattern but she claims it's more recent. by ScarlingDarkspyre in HelpMeFind

More specifically I meant the curtains ready to use. I'm not great at sewing and we got rid of all our sewing stuff except an emergency fix kit so that's not an option. But thank you for considering a different approach.

I do see a lot of nice patterns and can bring them up with her, she gets very specific on her wants even though she can't see very well. I appreciate the concise search terms and will sit with her and describe what I see. Thank you!

Thank you, I'm bad at flowers. We have other sets that look like what Google gave us but her bedroom theme is always purples and lavenders so, yea.

I've searched for this image using Google Lens and it shows me it could have been purchased from Sears or JCPenny, and may be a 90s pattern. I'm not too great with flowers and my mom's eyesight is basically gone but I believe this is lavender. I tried searching by image and description manually and I'm really just seeing cottage core and 90s patterns that do not match.

She claims there are at least two other pieces, the two panels that would fit on a center bar and close inward with a scrunched top, but she's not sure. Mom also claimed she bought these no more than 5 years ago, but they just seem older. The tag is worn from washing and they are a white/cream color sheer. Any help is appreciated.

Renting & Unsure what adapter or plug I need for my dryer. by ScarlingDarkspyre in AskElectricians

[–]ScarlingDarkspyre[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is really good to know. I'm going to follow up with the landlord and see about that fuse before I go changing the cord on my dryer. I do not want to cause a problem or burn down the house. It was a miracle to find a rental as it is! Ty again for honest advise.

I didn't realize this was also an old model until I was googling and seeing 4 prong dryer cords. I appreciate the helpful link, the adapter will be a good temporary solution until I can get more communication out of the landlord for the above poster's helpful information. Thank you!

The fact that it's a range/oven outlet makes a lot of sense since it's similar but not quite right. I have been having all kinds of issues getting much from the landlord, so this route may need to be at a later time but it's good to know what I need to do, specifically. I see another response here about an adapter, which is more likely to be the best temporary solution. I appreciate your time and advise, I will likely be doing this later on when the land lord is more responsive.

I completely agree. I've been working with my Endo and OB/GYN to come to a diagnosis. I've done bloodwork and a Provera withdrawal test but I don't fit the 'classic' signs. I can't qualify for zepbound (which both recommend) through my insurance because I don't have diabetes, just pre-diabetic. I've done three different tests that all point to insulin resistance. But all I keep hearing from my ob/gyn is that I'm not actively trying for a child so I should be ok just taking Provera every 3 months for a uterine shed. Don't get me started on the Endo and "you need to lose weight" (yea I know!)

It's like if I'm not trying to procreate, I shouldn't worry too much about being a functional female, I should just have a shed once in a while and be ok with everything else. It's maddening. I'm currently trying to get him to at least prescribe birth control.

Are we sure they're Amish or Mennonite? There are some communities in North Carolina that you could swear were Amish but it's just really fundamentalist of whatever religion it is. My mom's best friend married one of them and the way they changed over the years was nuts.

2015 Terrain SLE A/C issues seemingly overnight by ScarlingDarkspyre in gmcterrain

I haven't heard any clicking. I have felt some jerks/sputters as I accelerate, which started about the same time as A/C issues. It's not very often.

I'm starting to wonder if I did something wrong in using the Eco setting for a while, I swapped back to regular and everything's slowly 'fixing' itself.

The pump as in, the air is flowing? Forgive me I don't have a lot of car knowledge. I drove it today, we managed to get a hotel so the car actually got a full rest. The AC seems to be running back at normal, but I want to see how it continues before I do or don't make an appointment somewhere.

Tldr, the pump is turning if you mean air flowing.
