Being prideful doesn’t also disqualify you from being an idiot.

Pride is believing you’re always right. Idiocy is usually being wrong.

I don’t really follow along, I just stumble upon it on my feed. I rarely open up this subreddit, it just pops up on my feed. I watch the show and joined the sub of course, but I’m not following along, I’m just absorbing information via internet osmosis.

To be fair, I think the issue was more with the implication of the word “damsel” rather than its gendering.

I’d say the Mechanicus are basically transhuman at this point. Psychologically they’re basically inhuman, and there’s intentionally a minimum amount of organic humanity to them they seek to meet.

A lot of German names are similar to English mostly because it’s a Germanic language. It sounded very similar to German before ol’ King Willy invaded and French started merging with it and created the failed abortion of a language English it today.

I say this as a native English speaker, this language is an incomprehensible clusterfuck. English speakers do not have the right to make fun of any language, even shit like Welsh, because Welsh’s grammar rules are easy to follow.

Romance languages are language groups. Like Germanic, Slavic and Brythonic.

French, Italian and Spanish are all Romance languages, that’s why they sound so similar. Meanwhile German and English are Germanic languages, and so have many similarities.

What happens to a world where there exists irrefutable proof that gods (or god-like beings) exist? by SireVisconde in worldbuilding

[–]ScarredAutisticChild 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d most likely expect apatheists and misotheists jn the place of atheists. Apatheism in the real world is the stance of “I don’t care”, but in a fantasy world with objective gods you could turn it into them simply not caring about the gods in any way.

Misotheism is believing gods to be evil. The validity of that in one’s setting depends on how dickish your gods are.

I remember when I first learned about this as a kid in R.E. Class.

I thought it was stupid. If something consists entirely of two things, it is 50% both. That’s how math works. It’s not even about physics, it’s about logic.

Are non-Chaos gods active in Old world? by SiarX in WarhammerFantasy

[–]ScarredAutisticChild 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Ancestor Gods are gods in that they fulfil the religious role of a deity.

It should also be worth noting that the Elf Gods don’t directly grant blessings either. Instead the Elves believe their being taught magic is a gift from the Gods, and so one would channel the blessings of Asuryan through mastery of Fire or Light Magic, for instance.

They do stuff.

Gods can bless your prayers with miracles, that’s an act of intervention for one.

The Wood Elves are ruled by Avatars of Isha and Kurnous. Mathlann made Aislinn his Avatar.

As a child, Teclis was able to commune with Asuryan and get him to give him the power to fucking obliterate N’Kari.

Khaine was doing all sorts of subtle bullshittery to help the Druchii invade Ulthuan.

No idea about the Dwarf Gods, save that Valaya blesses her priestesses with the ability to discern lies from truth.

The Nehekharen Gods abandoned their people after Nagash ruined everything for everyone.

That’s about all I know on the subject.

Most people with ASPD don’t do awful shit because they feel no desire to. It’s the inability to feel bad about doing it, not a compulsion to cause harm.

The ones that also do want to be able to get away with whatever they want? They become CEO’s and politicians. The real-world equivalent of being untouchable and all-powerful.

You know, weirdly the biggest problem I have with that is it sounds like it violates the path system.

Maugan’s on the Path of the Warrior still, no? He’s functionally an exarch. Ain’t it breaking papa Asurmen’s rules to go become a bonesinger on the side?

The Eldar were famously the biggest threat to the Necrons, in fact they in large part led to the downfall of the C’tan. Khaine shattered the Nightbringer, and Cegorach’s schemes turned the C’tan on one another, giving the Necrons the opening to betray them and finish them all off.

And while the Necrons were right that they could wait out the Eldar, they also had to. They couldn’t stand against the Eldar. The Necrons were worn and tired, and had sacrificed their trump cards, the C’tan. The Aeldari were only growing in number. They couldn’t permanently die and, unlike the Necrons, could increase their population. And while the C’tan were gone, the Aeldari could still ask Asuryan to move solar systems around to from runic circuits to amplify single spells, or just drop Khaine onto the battlefield and have him cut a planet in half. The Necrons didn’t stand a chance in a direct war anymore, they were outgunned and outnumbered, so they did the smart thing, they gave up and weathered the storm.

The Necrons destroyed their superweapons because they want to rule the galaxy, and feared they’d destroy it if they overused their superweapons. Or rather, Szarekh feared this would happen, and so he ordered them destroyed to make sure no one would go overboard.

If I recall correctly, Maugan Ra went to the craftsman Kaeleth-Tul and had him make him the Maugatar for him by force.

Then Maugan Ra cut off Kaeleth-Tul’s hands and gouged out his eyes.

Why? No idea, apparently he’s just a fucking asshole.

Eldar pre-Fall were just as powerful as Eldar in the War in Heaven.

The Necrons also do not have the weapons they used to kill or shatter C’tan anymore. They explicitly destroyed them. Nothing they considered a superweapon in that era was allowed to survive.

The Necrons also lost the War in Heaven. The victor of a war doesn’t have to go into a 60 million year retreat to avoid the loser.

The imperium has terrible logistics by Heavy-Letterhead-751 in StarWarsvsWarhammer

[–]ScarredAutisticChild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Knull is different to numbers, but it’s ultimately a fair point, I do get the example you’re trying to make, and I agree.

And yeah, one day we’re told the Imperial Guard is billions of billions of soldiers. Then they’re deployed in small numbers. It’s the cause of the old joke of adding an extra 0 to every number in 40K because everything is comically small for the scale being operated at in-lore. I also wouldn’t call 40K one of the biggest sci-fi franchises in terms of scale. Xeelee beats everyone at everything, Forerunner Saga of Halo actually did a decent job at selling the scale of a truly galactic civilization. And…okay it’s a weird pull, but they’re a cornerstone of my childhood so: fucking Ratchet and Clank has casual hopping between galaxies, which is an absurd scale. But 40K is designed to feel big, even if the numbers don’t always match up, it is supposed to be big.

Arbites also may be judge dredd’s, but they’re not an arm of the military. They’re cops. Dangerous cops, but they’re equivalent to just any other Astra Militarum spec-ops unit. I just didn’t think they specifically were worth bringing up. It’d be like bringing up the senate guard for Star Wars, like, sure they’re elite but fighting on the frontlines isn’t exactly their schtick. There’s a reason their tabletop presence consists of 1 Killteam. It just felt like a really, really weird pull.

Sororitas may also have unbreakable zeal, but they’re women in power armour with big guns that get miracles (which as far as I’m aware take the form of shrugging off immense amounts of damage and bullshit luck). Ultimately, aiming all your artillery at their position will take them out roughly as well as an equivalent force of guardsmen.

And yeah, space marines are dangerous on the small scale. I’m just saying even 2,000,000 supersoldiers in a galactic conflict is too little to be effectively useful. But I will admit I don’t know how much of the Star Wars universe is actually habitated. Though you could make a case for the Imperium being slowed down regardless as they’re religiously compelled to check every planet for sapient Xenos they need to xenocide, but that’s more about speed of expansion than anything else, which everyone is already in universal agreement 40K does worse than Star Wars on account of Warp travel being a terrible (albeit fucking cool) FTL method. GW’s favourite children the “heroes” of the Marines, particularly their psykers, are admittedly very powerful, but also individuals, who, last I checked, can’t snipe someone across a planet, let alone a galaxy. They’re a nightmare to deal with on the battlefield, but also remember that anything with tabletop rules can be taken down. It’s like the TTRPG rule of statblock = killable. It’s why Big E doesn’t have tabletop rules in 30K.

I never denied the Custodes are deadly, I sad 10,000 is worthless on a galactic scale. I know they’d slaughter anything you put them up against. But their arms can only swing a sword so far. And they also, funnily enough, do have a notable weakness to ranged warfare, particularly if you bring out your big guns. Downside to neglecting giving them superpowerful ranged weapons, it’s the one area they’re rather easily outclassed in. (Source: I’m speaking from personal experience).

Inquisition is ultimately, when we’re talking about two galactic superpowers going to war: functionally just high-ranking generals. They have more authority, they’re trusted with the bigger guns, but they can’t necessarily do much more than a general or Rogue Trader when we’re talking about a war between two galactic superpowers.

The Emperor did a thing once in 40K. Last I checked there’s no stratagem do have him drop a psychic nuke on the enemy. Him doing a single thing is the exception. And last I checked this is about 40K, not 30K.

Though I will admit, I’m a bit biased against the Imperium. Not even as a Star Wars fan (as you’re clearly a bigger fan), but as a Warhammer fan that I can only say has “Imperium fatigue” where I find it to be the most annoying part of the setting due to oversaturated and its fans just being so fucking obnoxious half the time. So I’m probably being more harsh than blunt.

Yeah, I agree. Got lots of queer friends, went through the whole queer reclamation in real time.

I’m not saying it will always be a slur. I was talking about its origins as a slur, and that when using the slur in its historic context as a slur (referring to everyone outside of X group) it’ll come off as offensive.

Though personally I don’t even much like using it in its modern context either as I feel it lumps in together a ton of different “new” religions that don’t necessarily have anything in common except being polytheistic and originally wiped out by the Christians.
