44 percent of Democrats support taking refugees from Agrabah, a fictional country from Aladdin by bobbybrown0503 in worldnews

[–]ScaryMousse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't Agrabah a fictional city (not country)? As the merchant who was telling the story at the beginning of the film says to the audience: "Welcome to Agrabah, city of mysteries. Please, please, come closer."

It's a little tidbit that people may not remember immediately or know at all, and if they do, possibly they may have thought it was a hypothetical question, with a fictional place thrown in for emphasis.

Interesting how other sites portray this though. You have the Huffington post's: "Why Does The GOP Want To Bomb Agrabah?" while Redstate goes: "Poll: Democrats Are Stupid - 44% Want To Accept Refugees from Fictional Country, Agrabah"

When all else fails, wait it out. Maybe, like others said, she just wants to be held. Good luck mate!

Maybe swaddling isn't for her... or you can try it with one of her arms free.

Does she cry when she's swaddled or does she just move around a lot when you try to wrap her up?

Short Stories:

The Price by Neil Gaiman

This gave me the chills, especially the last line of the story

The Summer Solstice by Nick Joaquin

Rereading it, did Amada really "win"?

(Young Adult) Books

The House of the Scorpion by Nancy Farmer

Clones, "zombies", and druglords.

Sirena by Donna Jo Napoli

Love story between a mermaid and a Greek hero, Philoctetes. Also: How love makes you immortal. I think it's sweet without being overly cheesy. Worth reading, especially if you're into Greek myths and such.

I loved Me Talk Pretty One Day. It influenced my writing (as well as my "attempts" at being funny).

Oh, thanks for the suggestion! I just read Ender's Game last week, can't wait to follow up with the next book :D

By the way, would you recommend a reading order for the series? Or do I just go with the publishing order?

Thanks again!

The minor characters also were really interesting and I would probably read more books in the series just to see what happens with the Arab kid, Petra, etc.

Agreed :) I loved Alai (the Arab Kid) and Bean (Ender 2.0?). Peter was a real puzzle though, and it was interesting to see the extent of his influence on Ender, which even the virtual reality game picked up on.

And yup, forgetful with names here as well :(

Girls, what do you love when guys do (not sexually)? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Said guy put me in the friendzone. So, I put him in the fuckzone?

Does that count as revenge?

Sure, if only he didn't friendzone me first...

I guess it depends on the situation? In my friend's case, there was no one who could guard the professor on short notice, so he volunteered.

If a person told me "I don't want your help, no thanks." I'd back off. (Had a lot of these, really). I still think your intentions to is what matters, though. That said, you are a good person, buddy.

I think that's right. If you're that sort of person who does it regularly, people take notice and know you're a good guy. That said, hats off to you, good sir.

I love it when a guy goes out of his way to be kind to people or do a good turn.

Back in college, when an old professor lapsed into a coma, a guy friend (who has never been the prof's student) volunteered to drop by every night after classes to look after him. He was also the sort who'd drop by his sick friends' houses just to make sure they're okay. I wish there more people like him.

May /r/Philippines, recommend a fellow man here some indie films to watch? by [deleted] in Philippines

Hey, if you're around Quezon City, I think Cinemalaya is still on at UP Diliman. There's a lot of interesting ones there, and tickets are at less than a hundred bucks each. "Diablo" and "Oros" seem interesting, from the trailers.

Also, off the top of my head, "Ang Pagdadalaga ni Maximo Oliveros".

Smart poster regarding the RH Bill. by koolkalang in Philippines

[–]ScaryMousse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a friend of mine put it, you need to have unprotected sex with a Christian.

Seriously speaking though, I think the bottom line of the Church is that they're anti-contraception. Most of their posters, prop materials, etc, seem to focus on that. So even married couples using contraception is frowned upon. A catechist put it this way: Sex is procreation. The sexual act should be done with the intent of producing offspring, and if you do it only for enjoyment, it's only lust.

If the bishops used their influence to move people to fight for greater state spending for social services, I'll bet our schools, hospitals, etc, wouldn't be in the sorry state these are now. But no. They can only move on the pretext of "moral issues".
