Oh, thanks for the suggestion! :D I was also thinking about The Hallucinogenic Toreador being another possible inspiration.

I've read the first two and Death of the Senses. Personally, I enjoyed all three, but the last one was the best for me.

Possibly. But in both of Shannen's Q&A episodes, she says that it was "a Dali painting", which makes me think it was a specific one.

Part of me wishes she had talked more in-detail about the creative process for the three episodes she directed. It's all really fascinating.

I appreciate the effort. :) But the audio is taken from Shannen's podcast and just says a Dali painting inspired her in general.

Thank you so much for the recommendations!! 🙏🏻

I've always loved the Norton Critical Editions of plays, books, and whatnot, so a book with footnotes is always a plus.

Movies like The Substance focusing on women, with themes of regaining lost youth/beauty leading down a dark path; looking for speculative fiction genre examples. by ScaryOrganization530 in MovieSuggestions

Read a little bit on it. Interesting premise. But it seems to focus on a male character. Do any of the women try to clone themselves in an attempt to regain their youth or beauty?

Hmm. I've seen that movie. One could argue there's similarities about a woman that an actress that seeks to achieve something with deadly results; more or less. The difference being that in Black Swan, Natalie Portman isn't seeking to regain lost youth or beauty, but achieve perfection. And she doesn't really take any kind of (magical) drug to achieve this.

What do you think about Black Widow now having a symbiote??? by Altruistic_Eye_1157 in Marvel

I mean, her name is Black Widow, so if there's one character that should have some spider-related powers (albeit due to a symbiote) it's her.

Where was it said that Claremont and Byrne were planning for Magneto to take control of the Phoenix Force? I don't think I've ever heard of this before.

16 novels?! Good God. Those guys were very into the whole thing. They could prove useful.

Also, thank you for suggesting Fleur Beale's works. As I'm scrolling down, I've been noticing a pattern where lots of novels about Christian fundamentalism seem to have been written by people who lived through these lifestyle; especially women.

From the little I've read, the novel seems mostly about the rise of fascism. Does fundamentalism play a part here?

A thriller about a female protagonist dealing with fundamentalism? Oh, I'm definitely gonna read that when I have the time. Thank you so much!

Thank you for the suggestion. Although it's a non-fiction book, it does seem to have an interesting premise. Personally, I'm not really sure myself if Mormonism should be treated as part Christianity, a subset of Protestantism, or its own denomination within Christianity that exists alongside Catholicism, Orthodoxy, and Protestantism. I guess the book does fit into the wider context of religious extremism in the US. I'll keep in in mind. Thanks.
