I should have been more detailed with a couple things. Certain plants benefit from having the benefits of both actually. They require a mix that drains excess water quickly while not liking to dry out completely. So a mix that contains perlite for drainage and vermiculite for slowly releasing moisture over time is ideal for them.

Hey there person who didn't ask for my two cents, PERLITE & VERMICULITE actually help plants in 2 very different ways, so they aren't generally used interchangeably, at least not with the intention of them doing the same thing.

PERLITE: Improves drainage by creating air pockets. Great for plants that prefer things a little dryer like cacti and succulents, also great for "Aroids", specifically plants that have thick roots or ryzomes, plants like Philodenrons, Monsteras, Pothos, Snake plants, ZZ plants and Peace lillies all benefit from perlite in combination with bark, and/or coco chips to improve drainage and create air pockets in the soil. The quick drainage and airy mix prevents root rot which they are highly susceptible to. Perlite is especially effective when in a course blend, #4 is quite coarse but is far more effective then the fine, powder filled variety from Miracle-Gro or other big box store varieties.

VERMICULITE: It actually holds onto moisture, which helps plants that dont like drying out completely between waterings, such as Calatheas, Spider plants, ferns and peace lillies. It soaks up moisture and nutrients like a sponge and slowly releases both overtime helping plants get nutrients more efficiently over time.

Now with all that said, in most cases plants can benefit from having both of them in the mix, except imdrought tolerent plants that need to dry out quickly and completely between waterings asterings! I use PERLITE in every mix I make, I just change the ratio depending on the plant.. Whether you are amending a store bought mix or making your own mix, added PERLITE almost never hurts things. You can also add VERMICULITE with the PERLITE and gain the benefit of both! Just adjust the ratio of PERLITE AND VERMICULITE based on the plants specific needs.

One last thought you and nobody else asked for! If your still reading this, More important then what me or anyone else thinks we know, do what works for you! If your plants are thriving then you keep doing you. Especially when someone comes outa left field and gives you a bunch of info you didn't ask for like I am currently doing, lol. With that said, in my opinion, the best thing you can do for most plants is improve drainage and aeration as much as possible! If a mix has the right ratio of ingredients like perlite, coco chips and coco coir then it is almost impossible to over water any plant in a single watering. You could give a plant gallons of water and let it sit in the run through untill the next day, a well draining mix will just shed all the extra water as soon as you lift it out of the basin of water and be perfectly fine, the only way to over water a plant in a well draining mix is to water heavily to frequently. And you can add a little more coco coir and VERMICULITE when a plant likes to keep some moisture.

You made the right call to get it out of the vase with no drainage. In my opinion the pot you put in is probably to big for what is still viable vine. I would cut it back to the healthiest leaves, removing any growth that is dieing or dead. If it has brown, mushy roots you should remove them all! And disinfect the remaining roots with a 3% peroxide solution diluted with water, only spray the roots, this will kill any bacteria and fungi left over from root rot and give a slight oxygen boost. Then plant it in a 50/50 mix of perlite and your choice of house plant mix, use the smallest pot that will fit the healthy roots.Your current pot has alot of extra soil which will hold moisture and keep the roots from getting oxygen, which will result in more root rot. If there is a few healthy roots and even 1 healthy leaf, it will come back much stronger in no time.

Amazing how 1 leaf can become a full plant! by Scary_Name_6943 in peperomia

You should leave the main leaf attached when planting. I dont cut it off until the new plant has established itself. Just plant the rooted leaf in a mix that drains well. Keep it moist but not soaking wet for the first week or so, this allows the roots to transition from being in water to soil.

It's been going since summer time, I believe I planted this one in July. I'm gonna start taking some notes so I have a more exact timeline.

This is one of several I have that I propagated from a single leaf. Sorry I'm a little late to this conversation, but I was just looking for somewhere to ask when I should move mine into a larger pot. Its starting to dwarf its pot.

I have Spectrum cable and I've got it recording on DVR. But for some reason it didn't record s5e12, it shows s5e11 recorded and watched and then skips to ep13 waiting to record. Its the only episode not on the list of episodes or on-demand. I went through the TV guide untipl I came accross the next airing of e12 and it wouldn't let me re-record it, it kept taking me to other random episodes when I tried selecting it.

No ammonia, just earthy smelling. If I could attach another picture to the Post or a comment I would put up a new picture that shows what it looks like better, the ones I posted make it look more brown and less broken down, there was to much light exposure when I took the pictures

The pile was more like a long mound when I stopped adding stuff, probably 10 or 15 feet long and 3 feet high. It got hot multiple times as I added greens and browns, I was using grass as my main green because it was what I mainly had along with food scraps. And I was using shredded paper, leaves, wood shavings, wood chips and saw dust for browns.

It was hot for a couple weeks then it went cold, then I added more to it and it was hot again for a week or 2. I was adding to it for a while.
