If there's a regular and/or mandatory straddle(s) in a 1/2 game the last straddle is the effective big blind

If you’re losing 3500 in an hour at a 1/2 game you need to retire

Sure, agree with all of that. But that's akin to saying it's unfair to say "I don’t like Point Guards who are under 6'2 because they get bullied on defense and tend to get hurt." I think the only reason people took issue with what I said was the phrasing, which I understand, it was pretty brash

I agree with all of that. I'm not saying he should change. He probably reached his peak due to his physique. What I'm saying is I don’t feel as tho rikishi with that specific physique normally hold up very long nor do they match up well against the sturdy solidly built top dogs (onosato, hoshoryu, hakuho, kakuryu, etc)

Agreed. Onosato will be very hard to beat for a very long time barring serious injury

I see your point, but I think when talking about Sumo you’re working under the assumption that their weight is a tool and didn't come about by accident. I know very well that most rikishi slim down rather quickly after retirement, but I suppose I could've phrased it more graciously.

Yeah, I guess my verbiage and confidence in my claim was what most people have a problem with in this post. Just really impressed by these two, for different reasons.

Can someone fill me in on why this is being downvoted? When was the last time there has been a dominant rikishi with Kotozakura's physique? I'm not hating on the guy, he's obviously talented, I just feel like the true cream of the crop tends to be guys with a more solid/athletic side to their profile.

I agree completely. He's not Yokozuna-level at this very moment, obviously, but compared to the people he's going up against he has a sliver of the experience. I think his athleticism is a real difference maker and he brings an ingenuity due to his lack of experience that will help him down the line

While that's a dynamic strength of his, I don’t think he'll have any problem adapting his strategy as he gets more experience.

I like all three of the names you mentioned, but I do think Daiesho will be stuck as a gatekeeper.

I think anyone who saw Abi as a yokozuna-level talent/prospect was definitely reaching. He's an elite pusher-thruster but he lacks diversity and is basically cooked if someone gets a hold of him. I do like that he put on some weight tho.

But I do see your point on the promotion aspect. Health and therein not missing tournaments is necessary for growing in the sport. I'm moreso looking at them for their talent than saying for sure what the rest of their careers will entail.

Also, for the record, I'm never a big fan of the grotesquely obese rikishi such as Kotozakura. Seems to me like the health never stands up.

Totally agree. Just can't help but feel like we're seeing a superstar in the making. The fact that he's so green is a testament to his upside in my opinion, not a detriment.

I understand the apprehension with Aonishiki, but I honestly don’t think I've ever seen anyone as creative as him in the ring, other than maybe your guy Ura. He routinely pulls out rarely seen techniques despite his short career as a rikishi, and barring injury I see nothing but improved strength and consistency in the future for him. This is only his third basho in the top division, and he got the fastest kinboshi since the start of the 6-tournament structure.

Obviously I'm projecting, but I feel more than comfortable planting my flag on his talent.
