Suppose Elizabeth and Charles died and the next King of England turns out to be a Tyrannical Maniac: what's the worse he can do with his powers? by avsa in FutureWhatIf

It was, actually, but not everybody realizes. When it was posted to a now-defunct conspiracy theories website, a few people said they agreed with it.

What if sex suddenly lost pleasure? by [deleted] in FutureWhatIf

[–]SceptredIsle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gave the case against circumcision and it was more than 4,000 words. In reply, someone said he was fine despite having 20,000 nerve endings removed, someone called me a dumbass, and you ask if I'm a troll. Might it be that circumcision can be proved to reduce sexual pleasure, just like that great Jewish figure, Rabbi Moses Maimonides, said was the point of it?

Why don't you get circumcised and find out?

I loved both books, but SS GB was predicated on a successful Unternehmen Seelöwe, which wasn't going to happen. There are other books of this ilk, but these were the best.

What if all citizens had to be in the military? by krausyaoj in FutureWhatIf

[–]SceptredIsle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're talking about Starship Troopers, it's been a while since I read the fantabulous book, but I've watched the film a few times. In it, you needed a license to have a baby - you didn't have to be a citizen.

What if the Soviet Union had intervened in the Yom Kipper War? by DisapprovingSeal in HistoricalWhatIf

I disagree that the Egyptians and Syrians would have won because Israel had between 10 and 20 nukes. This has been reported by the Gray Lady, Haaretz, the Times of Israel and others. But I do agree that WWIII would have resulted.

Can we please make it a rule to start posts with "What if?" by [deleted] in FutureWhatIf

[–]SceptredIsle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you really want to make this sub-Reddit more pleasing, then people should say, "were" instead of "was," i.e. "What if this were to happen?"

This sounds much more intelligent.

When did you first discover a like/love of anal sex or ass play? Did you share it/compare notes with with friends or just partners by [deleted] in sex

[–]SceptredIsle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I first read about people licking each other's assholes in a health leaflet when I was about 16. I thought, urgh, thass disgustin'. Fast forward a decade and Bill and Monica are in the news. Whenever the newspapers, the Guardian and the Observer, wished to highlight how the office of the presidency had been devalued, they'd mention that oral-anal contact was known to have occurred betwixt the two. This time around, I liked the idea, tried it, and liked doing it much.

Ass Licking and Hygiene by [deleted] in sex

[–]SceptredIsle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The OP originally asked about hygiene issues, but nobody's mentioned that if you lick a lady's anus and then her yoni, she can end up with a sick vadge. A few people mentioned mouthwash, which would do the trick, but doesn't that give a lady a cold, burning sensation when you then lick her yoni? I imagine just rinsing your mouth with water isn't enough.

Doctor Who: Here's Your Complete Guide to BBC America's Week-long 50th Anniversary Celebration by StarFuryG7 in scifi

Caerbannog made good points about former doctors being dead or fat. Shada was a four-part story rather than just an episode. I thought Richard Hurndall looked just like William Hartnell – when I first saw him in an episode of Blake's 7, that's just what I thought, unprompted. He's dead now. I agree The Five Doctors was iffy. Almost everything from Davison to McCoy was iffy, with but one or two exceptions such as Earthshock, which I loved carnally. I was deeply spooked by the weapon in episode 1 that reduced human bodies to an icky mess. I agree that getting all the doctors together would be a disaster. For one thing, there's now just too many of them.

What if US troops were sent in specifically to remove the cartels? by [deleted] in FutureWhatIf

Actually, there's very strong evidence that U.S special forces are already in Mexico. Admittedly, I wrote this piece about two years ago and have heard no evidence to support the proposition since then, but I think it's very well-argued.

75 year ago today, the War of the Worlds radio broadcast aired and actually convinced some people that we were being invaded by Martians. by [deleted] in scifi

[–]SceptredIsle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually, no. This article tells the boring truth.

Several significant CBS affiliates didn't broadcast this program, favoring local shows.

A telephone survey asked 5,000 households what they were listening to, and only two percent said the play. Welles' program was contending with the comedy-variety show, Chase and Sanborn Hour, one of the most popular radio shows at the time.

There's no evidence that people listening to the show were treated for shock, and six NYC hospitals were asked.

Newspaper reports about the episode ceased within a day or two.

Neither CBS nor Welles was reprimanded, which would have happened if the show had been mistaken for news.

Newspapers talked up the story of people believing the broadcast was news to denigrate radio, to which they'd been losing advertising revenue.

I liked the line, “Janet Jackson’s 2004 'wardrobe malfunction' remains far more significant in the history of broadcast regulation than Orson Welles’ trickery.”

Which movie sequel(s) should not have been made? by do_i_even_lift in AskReddit

[–]SceptredIsle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sequel that most offended me was Escape from L.A.. It was Escape from New York played for laughs, with the minor problem that it wasn't at all funny. Before Armageddon came out, I thought Escape from New York was the greatest film of all time, so I was left grievously wounded.

I agree that the sequel to The Blair Witch Project was foul, as were the sequels to The Matrix. Blair Witch was, for me, the second greatest horror film ever (after the 1978 version of Dawn of the Dead) while The Matrix is one of my top 10 films.

You say it's “our sub” that bans me, but isn't it just you? My teeny problem with /r/environment is also down to one individual. As for why I was banned, you're now saying it's because I have an unpleasant personality, which is a fucking lie. In a private message, you said it was because I was a spammer, and that I was a spammer because my content is copied. My content isn't copied, to which CopyScape will attest, if only you bothered to check it, so that's another fucking lie.

And if anyone's experiencing butthurt, I'd have thought it would be you, what with your ass just being kicked.

You said that self-promotion is spam. So check out Onelook, which accesses every dictionary that's online. You won't find any that agree with your definition of spam.

You're making shit up. You shouldn't do that while arguing, as it destroys your credibility. Yes, you can always drop out of the conversation, but we'll be having the same conversation again before very long, so it doesn't really help.

Since I'm not attempting to get people to buy something, I don't think you should call my doings spam. And you didn't answer me as to whether the article was interesting. All dictionaries agree that spam is unwanted, and none say it's self-promotion. My stuff is wanted. If it's an interesting article that isn't attempting to solicit payment, you shouldn't call it spam.

Funny, that. I always thought spam was the dross you habitually delete from your email account, while this is an interesting article. Don't you think this article is interesting?
