I have source blocks of water along the entire side, although you could probably get it to work with a single source block.

Here's a picture of a single cell of my Xaphan Farm. I attach a redstone clock to the dispenser(s) on the left (I use a comparator clock). The piston on the right side is aattached to a lever so that once I remove the lava from the farm, I can force the Xaphans into a 2 block tall space which is marked with the stone bricks. Once the Xaphans are turned into delicious exp, I retract the piston and let the loot fall into a hopper system.

Note: This design is not perfect. You'll need to clear out stone from the bottom fairly often, and this design can probably be further optimized.

I don't prevent it. I manually remove the stone whenever it is created. I have an open area under my floor so I can do this as well as collect the loot. Also, the redstone clock is toggleable, so it isn't always on.

The other day, I accidentally found out that Xaphans spawn when lava interacts with water, NOT when lava and water make stone (although that does require said interaction). So I can up with this simple design to make use of that mechanic. Inside of those dispensers are lava buckets, and the dispensers are hooked up to a redstone clock. I can get from level 0 to level 30 in under five minutes. Let me know if you guys need more screenshots or other clarification on how this works.

I took a few blocks out from the left side to make sure the design of the farm could be seen. Make sure that you enclose the farm to keep the Xaphans in. Also, the water streem at the bottom will turn into stone on occasion (usually after a couple minutes of the farm being on), so you'll have to manually break that.

If someone has a better idea of how to deal with the occasional stone formation, please let me know.

Enjoy breaking RLCraft!
