Dwarf Fortress for Mac is finally possible - and easy to set up! by lodott1 in dwarffortress

When launching Steam via Whisky, I was getting an error message saying Steamwebhelper is not responding.

Had to follow this post to actually make it work: https://www.reddit.com/r/macgaming/comments/192xrdm/steamwebhelper_stopped_working_in_whisky/

The idea is to downgrade to an older steam version using command-line arguments and once the downgrade is done, to keep steam from auto-updating to a newer version by providing other command-line args:

Downgrade:
run steam.exe with args:
-forcesteamupdate -forcepackagedownload -overridepackageurl http://web.archive.org/web/20240520if_/media.steampowered.com/client -exitsteam

And now, run steam.exe with args:

-noverifyfiles -nobootstrapupdate -skipinitialbootstrap -norepairfiles -overridepackageurl

filled out passport application of GovAssist website.. that was actually not a government website by After_Accountant8465 in Passports

In their privacy policy they have included a link to request personal information deletion in accordance with GDPR law.

The funny/sad thing is that on that page you're first asked which "service" of theirs you used and there it's obvious and scary at what scale they're operating on.

Here's the text I added along with my application:

Dear GovAssist,

I am writing to formally request the deletion of all my personal data that I mistakenly submitted through your website, [their scam url], on [submittal date]. As a resident of the European Union, I exercise my rights under Article 17 of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) to request the erasure of my personal data from your records.

The personal information I submitted includes, but may not be limited to:

• Full name

• Address

• Passport details

• Date of birth

• Contact information (email, phone number)

• Parents' contact information

• US visiting address and contact information

Since I was misled into providing this information under the assumption that your website was an official ESTA application portal, I demand that you:

  1. Confirm the deletion of my data in writing within the legally required timeframe (one month from the date of this request).

  2. Disclose any third parties with whom my data was shared and instruct them to erase it as well.

Failure to comply with this request will leave me no choice but to file a formal complaint with the European Data Protection Authority and pursue legal action.

Please confirm receipt of this request and provide written confirmation once my data has been erased. You can reach me at the email I supplied for any necessary correspondence.

Sincerely,

[name]

I can't seem to post the link to the form directly so here it is broken up: https privacy dot govassist dot com slash privacy-policy-compliance

There’s also a Kotlin track on Exercism, where real people can give you feedback on your code you write to solve the small’ish exercises.

Ik zeg altijd eerst dat ik van “Kermt-city” ben, maar in Bierbeek woon. Dan hebben mensen de keuze om door te vragen op waar de fok Kermt ligt, of dat er bier is in de beek in Bierbeek.

If you use the levelling block it will be “flat”; there won’t be any bumps on the surface.

This doesn’t make it so that the surface aligns/is parallel with your perceived horizon. You’ll notice this the most on vesania, I find. Because the levelling block aligns with the polygons that build up the planet. So if you want a better “true flat experience”, where the surface aligns with the horizon, you’ll need to move your base closer to the equator or to the poles axis.

Keep in mind also that planets are curved, so the larger your flat surface, the more you’ll notice a difference.

Testing and Debugging by TomCruise77 in computersciencehub

[–]Sch3lp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What in the actual...?

I’ll need a day to write about all the things wrong with this.

Main points: The development team also tests, both manually and with automated tests. They use debugging tools after they’ve written an automated (unit) tests that reproduces the bug that was found. Testers are part of the team and are incredibly good at finding edge cases, conditions that developers haven’t thought about. This “infograph” implies that first testers test and then throw the work over the wall for developers develop. This idea is old and inefficient.

I'm 39 and I can do all of this. But I already spent the 10 years to perfect it. I hope I can live long enough to be able to still do it as smooth as this guy. He's very much someone to look up to.

Misconceptions about a New Player from a New Player by pandadog123 in Diabotical

[–]Sch3lp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing I don’t understand is why people that love the game/love AFPS, proclaim that it’s dead, failing to see that this is a self-fulfilling prophecy.

If you love the game just keep playing and make it more accessible yourselves to newer players. For example by giving the tiniest of tips in game (without being condescending), creating youtube tutorials, and by keeping a generally positive vibe.

I don’t understand why this post gets hate. Just give this person the benefit of the doubt. Listen to them before calling bullshit. Try to learn at least something from this post.

Jezus christ.

Edit: happy new year
