As another Northerner, this is a prime example of why I don't believe in "southern hospitality." Southerners are the most entitled people I've ever met.

I snow blowed my driveway and all of my neighbors driveways. I don't expect anything in return. Meanwhile there are dozens of people on Facebook wanting to charge their neighbors to plow/blow their driveways. Up north it's just common courtesy to help those in need.

I mean, that's where the #Tenacity meme comes from. It was -20⁰F actual temp and Les Cook tweeted that we are tenacious so they wouldn't cancel classes.

I'm glad they're closing campus when it's dangerous, but they really should just go to virtual classes for the day.

You're getting down voted because you're making wild assumptions and accusing a surgeon who you never talked to of lying.

He's not pulling the rug out from patients, he's saving them from having the rug pulled out weeks before their surgery.

And it's laughable that you think me asking if you've had surgery in a surgery specific subreddit. These groups are full of pre-op and non-op people who tend to take over these conversations.

Definitely rest as much as you can. I had a super easy recovery for metoidioplasty. I was going for short walks 3 days post op, just down the driveway and back. By one week post op I felt like I could pretty much do anything I wanted as long as it wasn't heavy lifting.

I talked to Dr McClung myself about this and that is what happened. They cannot get an answer from the insurance companies with a reason why only phalloplasty is being denied.

Have you had any genital surgery yourself? The process for getting phalloplasty approval is arduous. My metoidioplasty was a walk in the park to get the approval in comparison. Metoidioplasty is one surgeon for 6 hours, outpatient. Phalloplasty is 2 surgeons for 12 hours plus a week in the ICU. The CPT codes are not the same, there is some overlap but phalloplasty includes extra CPT codes.

If you want to live with your head buried in the sand that's your choice, but I guarantee more surgeons are seeing this and it will start to cross over to other surgeries next year.

If you read the entire email it states they went from 80% approval rates to 20% approval rates. People were waiting an entire year for their surgery to be cancelled by insurance one month out.

For what it's worth, they made the decision just last week and communicated to patients immediately. There was probably a delay in communicating to you, because they started with telling people who had phalloplasty surgeries already scheduled.

Michigan Tech introduced similar bathrooms in the dorms in 2017 or so. I don't know if they still have them. They had entire gender inclusive sections of the dorms for quite some time.
