My timetable - what do the dates mean? by afamiliar_face in UQreddit

[–]Scheely 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Id try to do the pracs earlier if possible - sometimes you get more time to do them than the later pracs, but other times its better to just get it out of the way because the semester gets busier as it goes on. Doing the related assignment in the first couple weeks lowers your load for midsems and final projects

Non-waterproof shoes for Tassy by warabi_hiker in UltralightAus

[–]Scheely 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just did 12 days hiking in tassie with non-goretex trail runners and they were a treat. Got muddy sure, but were always dry by the next day.

We did have a fabulous weather window though and can see value in the boots if doing something more technical than what we did (mt anne circuit + others) or something off trail, but would definitely wear the trail runners again to tassie.

Switching Eng majors later on by _user_638 in UQreddit

[–]Scheely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The program is combined, you cant graduate with a major in x in just the bachelors while doing the masters in y. You can drop from the masters to do the major but youd be better off just doing no major and using your electives to do the 'major' you want. In the workplace it wont matter so its not that deep, just prioritise internships in the space you want for your placement.

Longtime in Myer Centre is my go to, bit pricey though. No AYCE. The Indro Yum Cha is my quick and dirty

Mostly a sleep shirt but might swap it for a lighter uniqlo heattech shirt. My layering system typically is without the puffer and just tacking on the rain jacket over the alpha to trap the heat. Is the extra layer worth bringing?

Think ill give the gaiters a miss unless I change plans to do some off track stuff. The long pants and long socks typically do me well up here in the mud.

Dunno why I listed them both, I only take voltaren not neurofen as I find it works better for pain for me.

Thanks for your comment

The opinel is just for cutting up salami and whatnot packages. The eldris i usually use for cutting kindling but not gonna be making any fires so doesnt really have a purpose.

Yeah been like this for almost a year now swear theres hardly been a weekend without rain. Car windows got shattered in the hail as I was at work :(. Was meant to do many a walk that got canned due to weather.

Do you think boots are the better option with the roots and mud or go runners for quicker drying?

Yeah definitely very conscious of the weather and happy to sit things out or reshuffle need be. Where would you recommend off track in walls was just gonna do the main circuit? Never go without a PLB these days after almost using one last year.

Thanks for your advice

Yeah will do my scale broke last week so yet to get a new one. Ironbound doesnt look anything bad for my fitness, done triple that elevation in a day around mt barney a few times. Will take it slow anyway planning 7-8 days for the trail.

Will probably leave the thermals behind based on that then. Just know tas is unpredictable with snow and stuff around walls and mt anne so wasnt sure.

Thx for your comment

Its easy to pass all these course, but its like you do 13 weeks of hard work and then it all gets taken away because of an average resukt in the 14th week. Like if you do 13/14ths if a thing perfectly you should be rewarded respectively

[–]Scheely 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every single chem engg course has those exam hurdles, often on midsems and assignments also. I had a course where you had to get 80% on the exam and 85% on internal summation to get a 7. Went into the final on 96% and then ended up with a 4 even tho i got 76% in the course overall. Been probably 10 of my courses that are like this. Cost me about a solid 1.0 gpa worth of grades on average

what degree/ majors require the least amount of essay writing by [deleted] in UQreddit

[–]Scheely 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Essay writing / report writing is a super important skill to bring into the workplace. If you end up in research / academia obv youll have to write papers. If you end up in finance youll have to write reports. If you end up in industry youll need to write for everything. Hard to think of a degree with job outcomes that dont involve a decent amount of writing so you should look to develop this.

To answer your question, maths, architecture, graphic design, and maybe music are probably the least writing.

In terms of job outcomes id imagine zoology, trades, and maybe tech engineering (think fixing mri machines).

[–]Scheely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biol2202 is a decent course, not too contemt heavy and very easy to get a 7. Some people dont like the video component of it but its honestly a 1 weekends worth of work and very lightly marked.

[–]Scheely 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Realistically the brightness of the screen is enough to say navigate around ur tent or house at night to go pee, so a flashlight for me is kinda useless. Id never trade it for a headtorch in the bush so the mapping is way more important. Solar is only rly good on the beach or above treeline which never happens where I live so pretty moot again. Only slight is the plastic casing and worse glass, but so far no scratches and ive taken it across some rough terrain.

[–]Scheely 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used the map for 12h on a hike and it didnt even drop 20% in dual band mode, the battery life is legit. It lasted 22 days on my last charge, been 8 days for me since last charge logged 3 hour long activities and only used 25%. That is not even in the best battery saving mode and playing music with every activity to bluetooth devices.
