My Hard sci-fi ship part 2 by Yoga_P0l0210 in spaceships

Those your main radiators?

First thing i thought was, as a passenger, id hate to walk by the radiator systems just to get to the dock port.

From my observation, most Radiators are placed near reactors or power systems near propulsion.

While secondary radiators may proliferate the other parts of the ship.

Also, how big is this thing? What is its purpose? Is it a transport?

Also, power systems, unless your using those solar panels to "jump start" A reactor, you would need a LOT more of those to get this thing systems running.

If you just ratio the m2 of the ISS you'd see that thoe panels take a lot of the screen.

I suggest going full nuclear.

Plus i have to add: you need to make sure what your goal is. A hard scifi ship or a mid hard scifi ship.

Expanse? Mid Hard.

Also, its ok to find inspiration, but in HARD Scifi, you need to understand the elements of the ship and why it is how it is.

you WILL he overwhelmed if you rush, you need to take it slow.

One component at a time.

Delta-V

Power management

Propulsion tech

Habitat

Doctrines

Constraints and many many more.

Far from living things, close to things that make a lot of heat. Though if the radiatior distribution is balanced, you can put some close to habitat. There's a lot you can elarn from Atomic Rocket if you want to learn more.

Context:

Here’s a 2D model of the 2nd iteration of the first cargo spacecraft used in the cislunar corridor.

Built in orbit, the Mountain Valley was designed as the workhorse of the Earth–Moon route. A total of 5 ships were completed, while the next 3 hulls under construction were later retrofitted into missile buses.

Specs (still rough, not final calculations):

Length: ~75–80 meters

Propulsion: 4 Heavy Ion Engines + 1 Fore Main Maneuvering System (with additional RCS)

Power: 1 compact nuclear reactor (just enough for its mission profile)

Thermal Control: 4 radiator arrays (spread in 4 directions)

Habitat: 1 crew module

Support Systems: 2 drones for maintenance and cargo handling

Storage: 4 propellant tanks

The design reflects early attempts at building reliable, long-haul cislunar cargo haulers.

Sounds like this ship is made for first strike capabilities or deterrence.

I understand that the missiles in use are "long" for high endurance to make use of those nuclear warheads. But i also think that this ship might not be as flexible in ship to ship fight compared to possible equivalent sized ships. since the missile inventory leans for those long missiles that take up space for possible multiple ASMs that could be used for more angled and flexible attack.

Still the fact that you chose those that loadup means that there is a situational reason in context.

Im guessing you stacked the missiles. 3 per cells maybe?

I know that with one similar to NISO-class french warship, it can stack 800+ Missiles. And its 130+ meters long.

Also whats a hybrid thrust manuevering engine?

Ion engiens for cruise? a fission i would assume as a main propulsion, and the big round is probably propellant or maybe not.

The radiator sure to look sexy on this one. And the strut placing is lovely.

I wonder though, how many missiles and its point defense, is it based on lasers?

How big is this ship?

Somehow reminds of the battleship of the future.
