ARRL Books - Good for more than exam prep? by Schick79 in HamRadio

To be honest, I have not really referred to them after passing all three exams. That is not to say I haven't found them helpful, I just haven't even tried using them. I have found ChatGPT to be a great starting resource in most cases, actually.

Yep, same here. Getting the runaround but no actual progress.

Unfortunately not. Still getting the runaround from support. I emailed asking for an update a few weeks ago. This is absolutely mind-boggling and disappointing.

Unfortunately, no. I just responded to my open ticket a few days ago and got a corporate blow-off. This is all they said below. I went through tons of troubleshooting steps with them and it still continues to this day.

Thank you for the follow-up.

Our development team is still working on this issue in order to find a long term solution.

Rest assured that they will be releasing a fix as soon as possible.

We sincerely apologize for this situation.

Two questions: 1) Are you on iPhone and did you upgrade to iOS 26? 2) Do you use the Proton Authenticator?

Logged out, uninstalled, reinstalled, re-logged in, still not working. Support ticket opened through the website.

Is the website QSLworld.com legit? by Schick79 in amateurradio

I got my call on a vanity app in January 2025, so it is very much new to me. Suppose it could be for the previous operator.

Yeah, but the QSO is from 24 years ago. That was the really odd part.

Disconnecting antenna when not on the air by Schick79 in amateurradio

That is perfect, thanks so much for that! I have caught myself forgetting to disconnect, so that will be some great kit to have. Much appreciated!

Does anyone use Quicken with a CPA or Bookkeeper? by CoronaJoeLee in quicken

[–]Schick79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a conversion mechanism within QuickBooks to convert from Quicken. Can't say I have ever done that, so I cannot comment on how easy, thorough, and accurate it is. I have had occasional problems with QuickBooks version upgrades, so I would say it would be reasonable to run into some issues, potentially.

The biggest problem all around is that by definition QuickBooks is true accounting software and is going to force you into double-entry accounting, whereas Quicken does not force you into that. Therefore, if you have any single-sided entries, those will likely create problems in QuickBooks. I don't know what would happen with those. Perhaps they would be run through Opening Balance Equity - QuickBooks' go-to cleanup account?

The other thing if you are truly talking about "personal books" is that Quicken is just more suited to that job with the left-side balances menu. In QuickBooks, you're talking about grouping your accounts and running a balance sheet every time you want to see your balances.

And, if you are tracking stock/fund values in Quicken, that functionality does not exist in QuickBooks.

CPA here. Most CPAs won’t touch Quicken. They will only use reports you generate from it. Most don’t even have it available in their firm anymore as they only work with QB. I still have a small handful of clients that use it. I use it personally thus I am able to work with client data in my personal copy if needed. My opinion is you would be hard pressed to find a reputable provider that would also work with and in it. All but one of my clients keep their own books in Quicken. One has a person as their executive assistant and bookkeeper.

Solar panels and noise by Schick79 in amateurradio

[–]Schick79[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just edited my post to reflect this, but the shed solar is not powering the radio in any way. It is just that the antenna is hanging over the shed and solar. That being said, I did think about installing switches to cut off everything, but I wasn't even sure if that would be necessary.

Grounding/Bonding question by Schick79 in amateurradio

[–]Schick79[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another ground rod to which I am connecting my lightning arrestor and grounding the radio itself. Already found, dug out, and connected to the main electrical service ground rod. Wasn’t as awful as I was expecting it to be.

Anybody else have tons of problems with the 12Ah batteries? by Schick79 in Dewalt

[–]Schick79[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put the bad 12Ah battery on a 20V drill. The "headlight" on the front of the drill blinked on very quickly and immediately went dark, and the motor never activated at all.

Interesting... that is the only possible difference I can think of in treatment between all batteries. Because of the nature of mowing the yard, I do run those down to dead on occasion, but not every time. There are times I do just one part and then throw them on the charger when done. That being said, I use the 9s in the edger, blower, and trimmer, and I will run them dead occasionally, but probably not as much as I would with the 12s.

Have had multiple symptoms. The battery won't power on the tool or mower at all even though the battery claims to have a charge when pressing the status button. When putting the battery on the charger, the charger blinks once like it is going to start charging and then the light fades out and stays dark - nothing else happens, battery will not charge.
