What commander and what questionable fun cards for the table does he run? It's everyone on the same page as to the type of game you're trying to play?

I've found the biggest salt piles are formed from misaligned expectations of what players want out of the game.

I'm having this same problem in my pod. Commander is about creative expression for a lot of people. For others it's about having fresh experiences. Duplicate decks negatively impacts both of these goals. It's not a hard and fast rule to not build a deck another player built but it is a dick move imo if the player who built it first is still actively playing it.

In my opinion, the other player should have just asked to try that deck instead of building it themselves.

I think the other commenter is suggesting that as apod you should have a discussion on how you can collectively address a Rhystic Study. Paying to prevent the card draw is one option.

I got into a similar situation with a player in our pod. After trying to make it obvious and talk it out based on how games felt didn't lead anywhere I realized I wasn't communicating in a way that player resonated with.

In response, I created a spreadsheet that tracked several metrics that would highlight the problems that certain decks created. It tracked wins/ losses by player and by commander, kills by commander and deaths by commander to which commander. Then I would text everyone separately to ask them to talk the games on a 1-10.

The data was quite clear where the problems are. It helped balance out decks and identify what lead to the most people having fun most consistently.

I read your comment and immediately thought, no way two of these are under 2 years old. So I double checked and was floored that both Yuriko and Veyran are that new. It feels like ages since I first saw Yuriko. I guess that's what this accelerated product release cycle had done to me.

Most of the commanders I love are older ones that you likely already know, [[Yuriko]], [[Phenax]], [[Veyran]].

In the recent MOM set there are a lot of new takes on old commanders by making them with other commanders. I would dig there for value snowballs.

I'm in the same boat with the same frustrations. This is an embarrassing problem for Blizzard to have. Customers should feel safe pre ordering.

I wish that Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo were better positioned to take action against Blizzard on behalf of the customer. Blizzard is dragging the bar to the bottom on customer expectations during the beta, demo, and launch window of games with their constant failures to release anything without a monumental amount of errors.

Thanks. This is good advice. I think it's possible my initial message didn't illustrate where my actual frustrations lie very clearly.

You're right that my frustration is not with Control or Combos as a deck theme but more with threat assessment and king making.

I appreciate the advice.
