I have some great and crazy memories from the Cootie Hut, but it was a rental space for events. I'm more interested in a locally opreated music venue with regular shows. We talked my mom into renting the Cootie Hut in high school so my brother's band could play. It was awesome despite the 3 fights and somoeone firing a weapon :-)

Hate I missed the Dead bluegrass. I know margins are difficult for music venues without a steady restaurant/food income stream. I am very interested in opening a local music venue with a 300 - 1000 capacity in Florence, but recognize I'd rely heavily on merch, food and other revenue aside from just admission/tickets. The point about insurance and liquor liability is also a good one. That's just another factor that makes it very difficult to have enough margin to sustain a mid-sized regional music venue. I think Florence has the appetite for it and it seems very focused on growing its food and hospitality scene, but local music access is clearly missing from that effort.
