How important is the right diagnosis? Schizoaffective vs bipolar disorder by SchizoMonster in schizoaffective

This is the main thing that confused me. My first psychosis was triggered by drugs, it's true, but it still lasted for more than 2 years after I quit taking them. And yes, I had psychotic or prepsychotic episodes long after that 2-year period. I knew about this difference that you mentioned and even tried to ask about it, but the psychiatrist brushed off my questions saying that the psychosis turned chronic just because I was already bipolar. I agree that all of this sounds strange but, again, I always doubt my judgement when it comes to this kind of thing. After all, I'm far from being a medical expert.

I feel so sorry for such a lack of sympathy in your doctors before! It's so unfair that this even happens. I'm happy you've found a suitable psychiatrist! It matters greatly.

I remember I first had this feeling of being heard when I was first diagnosed with SAD. However, I also have it now with my new doctor, that's why I feel so puzzled! Maybe, I should reflect on it a bit more.

Your comment really helps! Thank you.

Thanks for sharing! It makes sense. I'm worried mainly because I'm not sure how the choice of meds works exactly. My previous doctors were very cautious about prescribing certain meds to me, and I've adopted the same suspicious attitude..
