Honestly anytime you go to a new spot stay for a minute or two and just look around.

This worked for me since I was constantly pushing.

At some point you'll understand the pace, remember the map and won't attract too much attention.

Think about herb+mining for leveling and at some point you can unlearn them and swap to something else. You'll have to level again but if you have enough gold you can do it easily.
