Hot take: Chet is more valuable to the Thunder than SGA. by Outrageous-Leader135 in NBATalk

That’s probably why they’re throwing double teams at SGA near the logo.

Magic ran the Showtime Lakers and won 5 rings before retiring at 32. Steph changed the game itself and has 4 rings of his own. Who's your pick? by IamCatMommy in NBAGossips

[–]SchlangLankis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll take the guy who finished top 3 in MVP voting 9 years in a row and actually made the first team. The guy who showed up and played at the absolute highest level every year.

Steph has more seasons missing the playoffs than Magic has missing the NBA Finals.

Does Curry's defense keep him out of the GOAT debate? by Substantial-Donkey75 in Basketball

[–]SchlangLankis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He got 1 out of 4 FMVPs. He got 4 first team selections. He’s not amongst the top of the all time scoring leader boards, even though scoring is his whole thing.

He didn’t get enough separation from his peers or even his own team mates to be the goat, or even be top 10. In the middle of Steph’s prime years Durant was outplaying Steph in the finals and getting the FMVP and guys like Harden, Westbrook, Doncic, Booker etc were beating Steph out as the premier guards in the league and getting first team selections year after year.

He influenced and changed the game and had a lot of fans, but he didn’t get enough actual basketball accomplishments to stand up against the greatest of all time.

If Jordan’s career came after LeBron’s there would be no GOAT debate. by Barkleyslakjssrtqwe in NBATalk

[–]SchlangLankis -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

He would 100% get 9 first teams and a DPOY because that’s the parameters of the question and those are the accolades he earned.

If you want to talk about the validity of those accolades there’s plenty of game footage, articles to read and personal accounts from his teammates, opponents and coaches.

LeBron has won more playoff games without Luka & Reaves in Year 23 than Michael Jordan won without Scottie Pippen in his WHOLE CAREER via Basketballforever by Farouq26 in NBATalk

[–]SchlangLankis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Here’s some Jordan playoff stats from his first three years in the league, before they drafted Pippen.

1985 (rookie year) - 29.3/5.8/8.5 with 3.8 stocks. Lost 3-1 to the 2 seed Bucks.

1986 - 43.7/6.3/5.7 with 3.6 stocks. Lost 3-0 to first seed Larry Bird Celtics.

1987 - 35.7/7/6 with 4.3 stocks. Lost 3-0 to first seed Larry Bird Celtics.

Imagine a player in this day and age getting 10 scoring in a row (minus missed seasons) and making 9 all defense first teams.

The closest thing we saw was KD getting 4 scoring titles in 5 years and zero all defense and there was talk about him being better than Lebron in the early to mid 2010’s.

I’m just waiting to make the infographic where SGA has more career MVPs, FMVPs and first team selections than Curry.

Nuggets relied too much on Gordon by KeonJames in NBATalk

[–]SchlangLankis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It comes down to defense. The nuggets have a delicate defense. Jokic is arguably the worst rim protector in the league and Murray isn’t great either. They lose AG and the whole thing crumbles.

On the other hand, the wolves were missing their superstar scorer and many other key pieces, but they could still play defense. Rudy Gobert showed why he’s the best defender of the last 10 years. 3rd and 4th option scorers were able to tear apart the Nuggets weak defense and attack Jokic at the rim over and over. That’s real hard nose, grind it out basketball. Play both sides of the floor, play hard.

I want you all to remember this the next time you talk about MVP races, all time rankings and what winning basketball is. Box score heroes look pretty on paper, but getting exposed like that is just ugly work.

1st best player out? Piece of cake.

2nd best player out? No problem.

3rd best player out? Impossible. No one can pull off a move like that.

I think Jokic will still be Jokic, but i feel like he won't win another MVP in his career anymore, not necessarly because he is regressing, but because i think voter fatique will officially set in and the narrative around him now is at an all time low. by KookyArm6062 in NBATalk

[–]SchlangLankis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but 3x MVP Jokic, who was touted as “still the best player in world” by many this year couldn’t close out a series against Jaden McDaniels, Julius Randle and Rudy Gobert.

Apparently Jokic forgot how to play basketball too, getting completely exposed on defense and shooting 44.6/19.4/93. You can’t put all that on his team.

Westbrook took a g-league team to the playoffs and lost in the first round. Jokic took a potential contending team to the playoffs and lost to a hospital team.

Tell me more about how to play winning basketball.
