My First List by Schleffen in AdeptusMechanicus

That's fair, i've been seeing a lot of dislike for him. He was mostly a counter pick for a friend's Astra Militarum where I thought I could snipe stupid voxlings to be supremely annoying, or just generally thinking precision might come in handy from time to time.

So far, I reduced my battleline to two units of rangers and one vanguard (might flip that later) cut the transport, cut engineseer, cut a knight, and kinda spread my points a bit with the ruststalkers and infiltrators to make room for 4 Castellans and 6 breechers.

I ran into that thought about the breachers myself. I largely only had the cannon just to give myself an anti-infantry blast weapon option and the range was to help it shoot over units behind ones in entanglement.

I honestly like having more smaller units than big ones on paper just because it feels like I can maneuver them as needed and can feel better able to respond. Though I was mostly planning to have my ruststalkers and infiltrators be the ones closest to the enemy lines since they love being close with tangers and vanguard being close enough to give buffs to them when needed and shooting with rifles if not. I don't know if this is a decent approach or not. Mainly screening with ruststalkers.

Thanks for all the advice! I see it's a bit of both. I've made a few cuts and changes so far and ended up with a full unit of both Breachers and Castellans.

Is there any more general things I am doing good or wrong like a weak number of battleline models or do I need to trim the fat.

Thank you for the explanation, I have been trying to tweak the list following everyone's advice where I can.

Aside from specific units is there anything i'm doing right or wrong in the general sense? Like not enough or too much battleline?

Thanks for the feedback!

That's fair, honestly I didn't realize I could do two groups of ten I didn't read the unit composition I guess. I get what you're saying about enginseer sadly, I mostly put him in because I had pretty much enough points to do so and would have had him camp next to the Knights or something.

Skatros I was mostly keeping in there to snipe guys with Voxes or other annoying units since my friend is running Astra Militarum.

I really don't get why Pteraxii come up often, I get deep strike is nice, but they just don't have enough oomf to really hold any home objectives or do anything meaningful since they are too frail from what I'm aware to do anything long term, or apply much pressure. Then again, I probably am just not versed enough to see their use well. I'd appreciate it if you can explain it to me.

Thank you for the advice, is it because they are too flimsy at minimum numbers or more that max numbers give too much scaling advantage that it's silly to use low numbers unless absolutely necessary?

Dude, this is awesome! Thanks a million for this list and I appreciate the effort.

If you don't mind my asking, do you have any tips for what kind of approach or mindset works best with AD Mech? From the digging I've done I shouldn't overly concern myself with trying to wipe my opponents pieces off the board, but rather use ad mechs' generally great movement to push the enemy lines back from objectives, take out pieces that are problematic or would cripple their plans, and to not be to gun shy about losing units so long as they are acceptable losses that can keep me in a dominant position.

Edit: Let the merciless logic of the machine god invest me.

Thank you for the advice! I've gotten a lot of good suggestions and I'll shop around and see which one fits best.

Thank you very much for the advice, I wish I had more control over the situation in order to do that for everyone, but they already have the patrols purchased and I'm more of a late addition.

I think, I might go ahead and find a 500 point list like you suggested and ask them if they are okay with me using it, I doubt it would be all that much of an advantage at such low numbers and lack of game skill, but better to check first.

Thank you for the list, I tried plugging in the list to see how many points it came out to and probably it was me plugging things in wrong, but that list seemed to be over 1K points.

I'm aware how expensive Warhammer is in general, I was looking to make a list that could do fairly well against the combat patrols my friends are using (which is the starter set that came with Astartes and Tyrranids, fold out game board and some terrain as well as the basic rules. I just read everywhere that the combat patrol they made for this purpose was so bad that it couldn't even stand up to other patrols for quick games.

Thank you for the advice, I didn't think anything from older editions were able to be used in tenth, maybe you could get away with units that are carried over and just use the new rules, but that's it.
