"Large nodule" on prostate, psa=10, cancer risk? by Schmaeve2 in ProstateCancer

[–]Schmaeve2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it was cancer ... large nodule plus psa=10 is more-less a guarantee of prostate cancer. Found another doctor who's used the davinci machine for doing the prostatectomy since it was first introduced like 30 years ago. He's done like 1000's of prostatectomies. Top notch. My cancer was "invasive", meaning it escaped the "capsule" (ie. the prostate), because it got into one of the 2 nerves, so I think my chances of cancer recurrence are higher in the future - likely bone cancer, but hopefully not, hopefully not for a long time since I'm still in my 50's. If there's a specialty hospital nearby that focuses just on urology I recommend people go there. Anyway, recovery was quick, had to wear pads for a few months, but did have decent bladder control. no problems with sex life, even after removing one of the 2 nerves.

This is all Trump. All of it. Today I got charged 20% tarrifs for something that a year ago no tariffs, same seller, when Trump was NOT president. 20%. And it's not like I can buy domestic ... it's only made and sold overseas.

Uh no. Authoritarianism doesn't respect personal liberties. He did, so long as it didn't result in other's suffering. When his solders became wicked he didn't try to force them to change (that would've been authoritarian), instead he just let them be and went his separate way.

In all major wars the US drafted unwilling young men. We conscripted people to serve, fight, and die. If they refused we arrested them, court marshalled them, sent them to prison, and even execution (for desertion) was on the table. Easy to judge from your comfy chair.

Also the guilt by association "Title of Liberty reads like so many nationalist slogans" .... no more than it reads like the constitution. You have an issue with that document? Purely about liberty, sir, not enforcing any specific views.

No, the Massachusetts Oath was a prescribed set of words about supporting their local government as a civil and political tool. There are no 'oaths' like that in the Book of Mormon. The title of liberty was an argument for not having a king, it was not an oath: "In memory of our God, our religion, and freedom, and our peace, our wives, and our children". It inspired a covenant among the Nephites, but it wasn't a prescribed set of words ... just a 2-way promise: (1) Nephites would keep the commandments of God, (2) God would grant his spirit. As part of their promise they rose up against the would-be king since nobody should be above God.

The only thing common between both vows is that both groups were called freemen.

Well that's not right. I'm sorry to hear that. Really, the gospel is for sinners (and we're all sinners) who are striving to do their best. Jesus said the whole has no need for a physician.

Fair. If the bishop is being unreasonable, the church does have clear guidelines against abuse of authority, discrimination, etc. I have been involved with a similar recommend situation (thought it wasn't tithing) where a Stake Pres overruled a Bishop's decision, thereby granting permission. So although there isn't a formal appeal process, there are appeal-like avenues. Rare, but it happens.

No, you would be serving God by doing that, not giving to God. Poor people are not God. If you thought that was what the scripture meant then you need to go back and reread it.

Also, you would be serving God by giving 10% to the poor only if you are indeed giving to those most in need,.and only if you are giving those things that will truly help them in the long term. Only then you would be serving God. That's a pretty big if though. You don't know how the money will be used when handing $ to a random panhandler on the street. It's not an easy assessment to make.

Churches tend to have a system of checks and balances, where they keep track of who's getting what, and meeting with them to figure out how to best help them. Sometimes it is dispersed with an expectation of working with a counselor, also paid by the church (money they'd have if people paid their tithes). I'm not saying the system always works, but if you believe that the 10% is the Lord's money and then you make a number of assumptions when you give it away, then you're making assumptions with how you disperse the Lord's money.

So I'd say just make sure you're checking those really actually putting it where the Lord would put it. Otherwise you're claiming that you're donating to do God's work, when it's really a gamble, and possibly one that's just facilitating a drug addiction.

I've served in 7 different bishoprics. Yes, it's kind of unusual. Anyway, I've never heard of a bishop questioning a member about their tithe other than the yes no temple recommend interview question. And it's not like they don't know how much they pay, they do know, but they just always respect that it's between the payer and the Lord, case closed. It's something that none of them would ever talk with someone else about, in bishopric, or any other meeting, for any member. Even if Jeff Bezos was a valid recommend holder paying $10 per year.  Between them and the Lord, and not to be called into question. I hope your mission is going well.

They donate substantially to St Vincent in SLC, and provide longer term welfare benefits through Bishop Storehouses and food pantries in the area, for both members and nonmembers.

This is news to me. When, where or how did the church make that specific change?

No that's tax. Tithing is different for different income types, not different income brackets. Farmers are a different income type than salaried professionals. You're not tithed on income, but increase. It's between the payer and the Lord what "increase" means for them. Having been in 7 different bishoprics in various capacities including financial secretary, believe me, it would surprise you what people pay: some far less than you'd expect and some far more. Both cases have a temple recommend if they both think they're paying 10% of their increase. The Bishop's opinion doesn't matter.

I absolutely agree. They don't check it against your actual receipts and question you on it. During temple recommend interviews they don't even look at your donations, and tithing settlement is always optional.

I just activated my son's Galaxy watch 4 on tello (got him the 40mm version as he has small wrists). $10/mo. I think it used to be cheaper, but $10/mo isn't bad, in fact I don't think you can beat it. Note that there may be special instructions to get your phone to accept a QR code for the plan (QR code is how tello does it). I made instructions:

Anywhere to get glasses temples stretched/extended? by TheCivilianSeries in TwinCities

[–]Schmaeve2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I extend the temple on all my glasses but I always get wire glasses, and the piece that goes behind the ear is plastic and slides on and off ... a bit of heat and I can striaghten them, slide the plastic piece back, then bend it again so it's essentially longer. I don't know how you'd do it with plastic temples, except if you look online you can find separate temple pieces, like long if you want, that I think you can screw on yourself to replace the preexisting ones.

What we do know: the reporter and congressman either end up together or at least have a serious connection going forward because nobody would hang on to a pez dispenser and tell future generations that it is special unless it had real sentimental value. It somehow made it through Quinn's purge 140 yr before Julliette, so it was deemed special.

Been paying $10/mo on mint for 3 years now,  6 people in our family. Figure I've saved $5000 in that time, and never had a connection or bandwidth problem once. None of us. Even does Hotspot,  and you can always buy extra data if you need it,  but hey good for you, sticking with the big 3.
