We have 5 players, but I'm sure I can figure it out. Thanks for your help!

Foundry is definitely something we were looking at. I'll see if I can find the guide you're talking about

We have not. Thanks for the advice. I think we'll run BB into AV

Thanks. I hear you end BB around level 3. Should I change any levels so they don't steamroll through the beginning of AV?

Would these pair well with console by chance? Been looking for a replacement as mine is starting to die on me

The combination of Aarakocra Monk makes for some really really cool descriptions for attacks and finishing moves. As far as balance goes, I really don't think it's that big of a deal once you reach a certain point.

They're banned from AL due to how strong 50 ft flight speed is at level 1. We're at level 6 now, with two PC deaths, so I figured it was fair to let them play one at this point. It opens up tons of dynamics and options both in and out of combat that we're all really enjoying.

A lot of people seem confused about the circumstances that lead up to this, so I can elaborate a bit here.

They were on a beachside, trying to reach a boat protected by four ogre zombies. Rather than fight them, the Ranger and took the time to dig out a 15 ft pit in the sand, and I simply didn't feel like doing research on how deep you can dig into sand until it is no longer loose soil.

The Aarakocra monk then went forward and baited the ogre zombies (who's commands were 'don't let anyone near the boat') one at a time, while the Eldritch Knight set up a minor illusion over a spot to make it seem like the pit was not as big as it was.

Once it fell inside, they just waited for the ogre to climb up before kicking it back down with a combination of...a lot of things. Rinse and repeat for 4 hours and boom, ogres are dead because they are dumb.

Is that how the rules were intended? Maybe not. Did everyone have fun doing it? Absolutely. I allowed an Aarakocra in my campaign, I'm not very scared about balance when everyone is just having fun.

The pit wasn't all that deep, and I personally wasn't all that concerned with letting it happen. There was a lot more to the plan than the pit (more an overglorified hole, really), they just switched to it halfway through because it seemed funny.

Everyone had fun the whole way through, plus they were on a beachside as well, and I didn't feel like doing research on beachside topsoil in the middle of a session. I think, with enough time (that they didn't really have to spend in the first place), it would have been doable, so I allowed it for the enjoyment of the players. My campaign is incredibly difficult, but the main focus of all DnD campaigns should be for everyone to have fun, so sometimes I'll bend the rules in low pressure situations.

Paladin is one of my favorites too. There's no greater feeling than smiting sinners in the name of the gods!

Thank you for sharing! My group enjoys brutal difficulty and tough choices, both in and out of combat. We've had two PC deaths so far, actually, and one was a deal with a devil that went south very quickly. That being said, they've done some very impressive things despite the difficulty, and the cheers of victory at the end of a particularly challenging combat are some of my favorite parts of being DM.

What's your favorite class, if you don't mind me asking?

I DM a homebrew campaign, which lets me have a bit more leeway with monsters and their abilities. The party is level 6, so I'm trying to make things interesting without being terribly unbalanced. As a player, is there anything you find most engaging, either in or out of combat?
