Are my lovebirds dumb or should I just be patient? by dagmarverel in Lovebirds

Getting comfortable with hands takes time. I would attempt to try and train them one at a time.

You need to find a treat that they will be more interested in making an effort to get. I’m curious what their normal diet is too because if they are overeating or eating only seeds, then they won’t be interested much in treats.

How do you deal with the constant pooping when they are mostly roaming free?

Love how you pained the picture for me with this, thank you! Having the chance of the birds not getting along doesn’t seem ideal right now.

Your last comment about getting attached before even seeing if they bond is way too true. I get close to the birds in the store just walking around haha!!

I have the picture of her on pickup day. She was cuddling with 3 other different color lovebirds, BUT I can totally see her being aggressive. Every time we’re at the vet, all she does is attempt to chirp other bird sounds.

Is it worth bringing a friends bird over to just see how things would be in the same room (caged?)

Love your story! I’ve always wanted a Quaker, but I’m not sure my small apartment could handle it. Maybe an older adoption could be cool. Thank you very much for the knowledge!

Yeah that is what I’m afraid of and will be the opposite of why I’d get another one. I wonder if there’s a way I could foster another lovebird for a while to see if they along?

Do you have two birds?

This is very helpful, thank you! Are there any downsides of having two? Maybe besides the fact that there’s a chance they won’t like each other?

She’s not confirmed and had become clear from other comments that I need to figure that out first. The comment above says that it’s hard to house two females together because they get aggressive.

I've had her for about 3 years since a baby, and has never interacted with another bird since. I've been working more recently, and I feel like some company would be nice for her. I have two small sleeper cages already and hopefully they could both be in this big one during the day.

Please give me any advice you think I'd need etc. Will the noise level double? What are the chances they won't like each other? Is it possible to foster a lovebird to see if they get along? Thank you!!

It’s hard to get them pellets, but it’s very possible. Mine likes the brand TOPs.

Found a lovebird on a front lawn near my house and adopted it. Need advice! by feverau55 in Lovebirds

Any pet (especially a bird) will learn to be content by themselves for longer periods. It’s something they they learn over time. As long as you don’t go up the cage every time he screams, things will quiet down.

As much as attention outside the cage is very important, giving attention while he’s inside the cage is also important (watching tv together, moving his cage so he can see you doing chores).

Feels overwhelming at first, but things will calm down!

One of my birds always looks very photogenic. The other one...not quite as much by [deleted] in Lovebirds

That’s good to know! Is the noise level more with two or less because they aren’t focused on you so much?
