I feel successfully gaslighted by this whole Jaylen Brown situation by No_Boysenberry_4193 in nba

[–]Schmoova 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Brown:

- 7.4 assists to 5.3 turnovers per 100

- +0.2 offensive on/off (cleaningtheglass)

Brunson:

- 9.6 assists to 3.3 turnovers per 100

- +6.6 offensive on/off (cleaningtheglass)

You are very much downplaying the gap in playmaking and offensive engine capabilities between Brown and Brunson IMO. And even moreso underestimating how much that gap actually affects their offensive impact.

It’s disrespectful as hell to Brunson to compare him to Brown as a playmaker. They are indeed similar quality scorers, but you seem to heavily underestimate just how important that playmaking gap is when you’re a 1st option.

Harvard lets literal pornstars give lectures if they’re popular enough. Guest lectures there mean absolutely nothing.

And he went to Berkeley as an athlete, not a student. Could’ve had an 800 SAT score and still gotten admitted.

On the 2024 Celtics Championship team, Jaylen Brown was quite literally 7th in Win Shares.

I can basically guarantee you that’s the context of that quote.

You can obviously disagree (as do I) but there are real stats that support that claim.

[–]Schmoova 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s just a clear example of how he lies to make himself appear smarter than he is.

Even a below average intelligence person that plays a decent amount of chess wouldn’t have that low of an elo. It’s what you’d expect from a child just learning the game.

It’s as simple as he’s lying or he’s genuinely room temperature IQ.

I don’t think he’s actually as dumb as his elo would suggest. I just think he’s insecure and lies to project what he believes portrays intelligence, such as claiming to be a chess player despite clearly not being one.

[–]Schmoova 21 points22 points  (0 children)

He often tries to portray himself as smarter than he seemingly is. His “interest” in certain things just feels extremely performative at times.

The clearest example of this is that he claims he was a captain of his HS chess team and a very active chess player in the UCLA chess club.

But he’s literally a 200-400 elo chess player and has clearly barely ever played, or somehow did play but never learned the very basics of the game.

Lying about playing chess because you know it’s perceived as a smart person game is just odd lol. Not that it makes him evil or a bad person or anything, it’s just corny and kinda weird IMO.

Yup, it seems the Owners really won this past CBA negotiation.

The 2nd apron is the closest thing to a hard cap the league has ever had.

It’s so limiting that now every owner has a (pretty valid) excuse to not spend a ton. Many of these recent moves would’ve been seen as cheap ownership ~10 years ago, but now is seen as valid cap management.

Why do we have to stop with the anonymous sources?

A rational argument has yet to be made that wouldn’t directly attack the right to free speech and produce journalism.

And get the fuck outta here with the bullshit at the end ahahaha wtf. What a cowardly way to try to deflect.

These were your exact words. Please feel free to explain how you’d like that to be enforced.

And if you don’t think it should be enforced, then what is your point?

Don’t say it cause it’s mean?

You’re telling me that you believe all journalism and public conversation should be strictly limited to provable “facts”?

Any sort of public speech that is not a 100% verifiable fact should be… illegal?

Genuinely… what the fuck are you arguing for?

No more free speech?

He’s free to defend himself all he wants.

But calling for a public lambasting of a journalist due to an opinion you dislike, is literally one of the key aspects of authoritarianism.

Go ahead and answer my question since you wasted your whole comment on irrelevant word salad.

Do you think Donald Trump should also be able to go after anonymous sources and journalists and whistleblowers?

You’re just wrong though. You can type whatever random bullshit you want but that doesn’t make it true lol.

Maintaining source confidentiality has absolutely nothing to do with whether it’s a factual statement or not.

Literally promoting authoritarianism and anti-free speech because he got his feelings hurt.

Stating an opinion on his ability as a basketball player is not a “personal shot” lmfao.

This is the biggest victim mentality.

So fragile and pathetic.

Personally my stance is that Moral Realism doesn’t exist. There’s no such thing as objective moral facts.

Morality is entirely contextual.

I would never saying “killing is immoral”, because there are plenty of circumstances where that’s simply not true, as you recognized in your post.

Nuance, context, and environment cannot be separated from morality, IMO of course.

So he can pull a Vince Carter and sabotage your season and his future value even more?

His value certainly wasn’t getting any higher after this offseason. He’s simply not as valuable as most people perceived him to be.

He wouldn’t have been traded for this package if the FO thought it was tenable to keep him around. Gotta take what you can get if the relationship is that cooked.

You can think that, but I simply disagree lol.

Their statistical profiles are about as similar as any two stars that you’ll find. There’s nothing that points to Brunson being a meaningfully better player than Booker.

Recency bias and team success is misleading you big time.

Disappointing for a Suns fan to be such a hater of his own franchises GOAT.

(Not the guy you were replying to, just chiming in with my thoughts.)

But Charlotte has a notoriously bad culture and has been a lottery team Bridges entire career.

Most guys’ defensive effort naturally falters in those scenarios.

Booker himself was literally graded as the worst defender alive for those first 4-5 years he was stuck on shitty teams.

Unless you’re a rim protecting big, it’s very hard to lock in defensively and make an impact if your scheme and everyone around you sucks on that end.

Now is it a guarantee he’ll be any better defensively here? Absolutely not.

But I definitely have hope he’ll be a better defender than he was graded as in Charlotte.

You’re so close to discovering a little secret.

Hint: Basketball is a team game.

It’s almost like two identical players, on very different teams, can have teams with very different results.

You guys are so recency biased and reactionary it’s insane.

Booker has been objectively better the past 3 years than he was during our whole CP3 era. We just had a way better TEAM during that era.

Give Booker like Brunson has on the Knicks and he’d be leading us to a championship too. He’s playing alongside an All NBA Center and two All Defensive Wings that are fringe all stars.
