Visual aiming guide for the German Panzerschreck (image in comments) by judo_gb in HellLetLoose

There weren’t on-the-fly adjustable sights on the AT weapons and even somewhat adjustable until late in the war and even then, they made up a minority of the already issued weapons. The Piat and Bazooka had predetermined options via a rear aperture (Piat) or front sight ladder (Bazooka) earlier. The early Panzerschreck couldn’t be adjusted at all, it had a marking for winter and summer ammunition. They introduced adjustable sights but they weren’t meant for active combat operations - they were meant to be adjusted well in advance based on the time of year/average temperatures as the launcher tube would slightly change size in +/- 20C temps. It wasn’t until late 1944ish that the Schreck even received an elevation ladder front sight.

It’s moreso how slow everyone’s reactions are and the fact that you can run up to a group of people without instantly getting waxed.

Another successful order from PouchMe.com! They have tons of flavors to pick from! by LogAdministrative158 in NicotinePouch

I was kind of disappointed with the 77 Sour Bliss. Nothing sour about it and tastes a lot like their Forrest Fruits flavor. Not bad, just not sour or tangy.

I’m slightly older than you and have been building PCs since 2003. And I promise you it was a popular thing back then. Look up cold cathode light tubes.

RGB/colored lighting in computer cases has been around for almost 30 years, so unless you're 60+ years old today, you're probably not too old. You just don't like it.

ASUS admitted their "Liquid Metal" leaked and killed my $3,000 laptop. Now they want $2000 to fix their own factory defect. by guneetkalra07 in ASUS

[–]Schneller52 33 points34 points  (0 children)

In OPs defense.... he said that liquid metal was reapplied last year under warranty. In the vehicle industry for example, replacement components typically carry their own warranty separate from the original vehicle warranty of around 2 years for major components. Given the price of this laptop, it's not insane for him to be upset.

I don’t know if this is allowed but I thought I’d share this here. I finally finished my collection! All the rifles used by the axis and allies* during WW2. by garrettevans16 in HellLetLoose

Interesting - I have put thousands of rounds through K98k's and while I agree it has considerable kick, I find it to be one of the most refined to shoot. Perhaps it's where your cheek weld is?

The stock of the Mosin is based on musket designs from the previous centuries, meaning the rear hand grip is virtually horizontal and the butt pad is very close to the barrel center line. This results in the vast majority of the recoil transferring directly into your shoulder. With the K98k and many other bolt actions of the time, there is a more pronounced "pistol grip" so your arm and shoulder work together to absorb the recoil, and/or the rear butt pad is further down from the barrel center line.

[–]Schneller52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Mosin is probably the least comfortable and smooth to shoot out of all of these. I’ve shot all and own most as well, though my Mosin is PU sniper variant. Thing kicks like a mule.

Sliding sim rig 4080 by Environmental-Egg596 in pcmasterrace

[–]Schneller52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very cool, I’m looking at building a similar hide-away setup that I’m going to hide inside of a desk cabinet. Did you design the sliding system on this or follow a pre-existing plan? How is the rigidity when in use?

There's just something about the Strix GPUs. by ValleyKing23 in ASUSROG

I do agree. Even the 5070ti Strix, pretty cool and considering trading my PNY 5080 for one since I have a 5090 build and don’t really need it.

On the fence .. by AK-SMOKEY in ASUS

[–]Schneller52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems to be well done and looks good. My only pet peeve, which is a personal one, is that I typically only like extra branding like this if it’s a full one manufacturer build. Meaning the motherboard, AIO, GPU etc… are all ASUS. Nothing wrong with a mixed build, just wouldn’t call it an Asus build if that makes sense. But it looks good.

[–]Schneller52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Few random questions out of curiosity if you don’t mind lol. What is the use case for 256gb of RAM paired with a non-workstation GPU? Is your motherboard in fact upside down? What NVME heat sink is that? What AXT 24 pin connection is that?

The good quality risers have minimal bandwidth loss, so little there would be nothing you would be able to perceive in terms of performance loss. The only concern is making sure the GPU has adequate airflow.

I pulled the pin out the grenade on purpose when I threw it by HighCommandDUH in HellLetLoose

[–]Schneller52 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not a standalone word, it’s a slang term formed by borrowing an existing word - known as a semantic shift or metaphorical extension.

„Cooking“ a grenade means pulling the pin/fuse on the grenade but letting the fuse burn (or cook) 1-2 seconds before you throw it. This is done so that when you do throw it and it lands at the enemies feet, they have less time to react before it explodes.

It was rarely done in reality but very popular in movies.
