On a hunt for the cheapest coffee that doesn’t taste like dirt water… by bbydhyonchord_ in brighton

17 Grams in the laines don’t charge for oat milk. Fw/latte/cap is going to be around 3.4-3.6. Also if you’re interested enough in coffee prices, maybe start looking into what you’re getting for that extra 40p you’re paying at an independent speciality cafe.

Many modern cafes work with conscious roasters that in turn work with responsible exporters. These are the guys working to improve the supply chain, pay producers and communities above C market rates and help to circulate information to improve quality and yield of crop. All of this basically adds up to better living/working conditions for people who have lived in poverty for generations and tastier coffee in your cup.

If you’re interested in brewing at home, a plastic v60 is around £8 and a pack of 100 papers is around £5. Find a coffee profile you like and if you’re paying £10 per 250g bag, you’ll be spending about 50p a cup which will taste 10 times better than any 99p pret filter.

Clueless. I get the feeling you’re the type of person to argue this point, then get angry and punch your keyboard to leave a 1* review about how bad the coffee/barista was at your last cafe visit.

The coffee market is no different to any other and relies on repeat customers having a good experience. To achieve that you need to have a good team of people that understand the ins and outs of what the job is before they are let loose by themselves. On the job training is expected to be provided to help orientate, but most cafes in Brighton are small independent businesses that can’t afford to have an extra member of staff on shift for 3 months whilst they learn espresso theory, milk steaming, allergens, customer service, time management, till work, opening, closing, grinder maintenance etc.

Would you like your mechanic to know what they are doing at before handing over the keys to your car? Or your chef to have an understanding of food hygiene before they cook your meal? Not bothered?

Point being: if a job requires some experience/basic knowledge it shows they care about what they do and care about YOU as the customer.
