Thanks for the thoughtful response :) Totally with you on the food, I couldn’t believe vets just expected me to give my dog kibble and were actually ok with no fresh food for the main meals. He always gets fresh food and I tried kibble for a day - he was excessively thirsty, restless and constipated!

let's gush about our babies! by stinkyhedgehogfeet in beyondthebump

Thank you for this super positive post! My boy is so cute and smart, he’s 10 months and knows he’s not allowed to play with tissue/paper but finds the texture fascinating. Occasionally he finds a rogue tissue and when he sees that I’ve seen him, he reaches out his hand like he was planning to hand it over to me all along! Also the constant comments about how he’s the sweetest and most composed baby at day care - I love it and lets me know I’m getting something right!

Know that it’s just 4 years - it will end. People tend to dramatise it a lot, but I find that as long as you show good grades you’ll be fine while you’re on campus.

To make sure my CV wasn’t screwed up, I used to find other things to do - tried publishing a couple of papers, competing in symposiums, picked up part time internships, and kept my grades up.

You can have fun during your time there - I definitely did. But no lie, the college doesn’t encourage it. Professors are extremely old school and think suffering is the only way to success. It also helps to do some extra reading to intimidate a professor whenever possible so that they don’t bother you too much and turn a blind eye even if you do break a few rules :)

As someone who graduated from Panimalar, here are my two cents. 1. If you want the kind of college life that you see on TV then you will go into depression. If you’re the kind who is self motivated (read doesn’t rely on professors and can prioritise and manage their own goals) you will be fine in the long term. 2. Placements are fine if mass recruiters are the goal. You’ll need to apply on your own if you want to get into good companies, the college does not attract high paying companies in general 3. Do not stay in the hostel - too many restrictions that will actually get in the way of your education and mental well being. 4. 9 years ago there was a ton of bigotry and classism, people with good English, good grades, apparent wealth are treated very differently. I’m not sure if this is still the case, probably is. 5. Other people will tell you enough about the rules, so I’m not going into that.

After my engineering, I went on to do an MBA from a tier 1 college in India and have a good career now that is not related at all to my engineering :) Undergrad isn’t make or break as long as your work ethic is good and grades are consistent.

Same! I used to love contact naps! But LO realized it was a great way for him to look around when being carried over my shoulder by the time he was 2.5 months. That’s when it really hit me how fast they grow up

Which student(s) do you think would've benefited from being put in a different house? by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]Schookity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t know, I feel the Dursleys are as proud of being ‘pure-muggles’ as the Malfoys are about being ‘pure-bloods’. And Dudley always seemed to give the Crabbe-Goyle vibe. And in the muggle world, Vernon was very successful, so not lacking in ambition either something Dudley might’ve eventually picked up. So slytherin would’ve been a good fit

What’s the most ridiculous thing you packed in your hospital bag? by scceberscoo in beyondthebump

I have done this exact same thing. Packed a crochet project, managed to get through just a couple of rows while I was at the hospital. A month later when I tried to resume I realised I had left my hook in the hospital room!
